Can't see a thing

I recently received a Meade DS 2130 as a gift. I have never used a telescope before, which makes it frustrating. I have read through the manual a thousand times, but still I see nothing. I have manually trained the scope on the moon and still nothing. Quite frankly, I just want to see "something" as all of the write-ups I have read about this scope suggest that I should be able to see Jupiter etc... Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you, TDuguid

I got a crappy vivitar telescope i cant see

First you bought a department store telescope-- not good. Buy telescopes from telescope retailers like Orion, or OPT Corporation. Try this-- during the daytime put the lowest magnification eyepiece in the telescope. I(t will be the one with the Largest NUMBER written on it. Then practice focusing on a distant object in day light.

Cant see out of 49114500 telescope

Here is a beginner's instruction on different types of telescopes-- I know the box said 650 power but that was a BIG BIG lie-- the smaller the number on the eyepiece the more magnification. Do NOT use the 2x barlow which doubles the normal eyepiece power in these small telescopes--- just way to much magnification. This is NOT necessary to view the sky at night. I almost NEVER go over 100 power in my 8 inch telescope-- once in a while maybe 175 power. Sp use the eyepiece with the largest number on it--- to practice focusing during the daytime.Try to locate a local Astronomy club and attend one of their star parties and ask questions. You can bring the telescope with you and they will help you with it.

Cant see anything through the telescope

The red dot finder is NOT lined up with the main tube. During the daytime locate a distant object with the main tube eyepiece. Without moving the telescope adjust the red dot to point at the exact same spot.

Cant see anything ?

I going to straight forward on this answer. This telescope is a useless piece of junk! The tripod is unstable, the .965 (obsolete size and design) eyepieces will only focus dead center. The finder is useless, too narrow a field to find anything. The high power eyepiece exceeds the maximum useful magnification (only 98x max under perfect conditions) This may be used for terrestrial viewing but worthless for astronomy.

I have a Meade DS-127 I bought 6 years ago. Not once have I been able to view anything. It came with three eye pieces and to just try and look at the moon it is like looking through a real cheap binocular. (very small image) I guess I was suppose to see other galaxies with it but I can't even view a close up of the moon. I has all the motorized tracking and such but I was so frustrated with the quality of image that I put it in the shed and left it there all these years. what can I do to fix the problem? I'd like to be able to see things. Is it the eye pieces? $ 500.00 is a lot of money. I had a cheap one when I was a kid and saw more detail in the moon than this thing.

This does seem a little strange. If you bought it used I could see perhaps that the eye pieces are not correct. It could be that the eyepieces were never setup properly for your eyes. This diopter setting is really nothing more than adjusting the eyepiece so that the image is focused properly for the distance that your eye is from the eyepiece. This is basically just screwing the eye pieces in or out until the image files the eyepiece. It is not focusing but and adjustment. This would definitely cause this. If you have the manual I'd suggest looking at the alignment portion of the setup section. If you go over the setup you should correct this. As it is a bit long a process I won;t try to type it out here. If you don;t have the manual you can get a copy of it for free from this url:'d also take a look at the cleanliness of the optics. This would make things fuzzy or appear gray. Meades are good scopes so I would think this is more of a setup issue than anything else.

Can't see anything through the lens?

Put the diagonal into the telescope-- then put the eyepiece that has the LARGEST number written on it. This is the lowest magnification. DO NOT USE THE BARLOW 2x multiplier !!Take the scope outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object. The moon should be the first night time target you try to see.

We cant see anthing but black and a bit of light

Your weight is probably off balance which is why it won't stay on the tripod. If your not seeing any images your scope needs to be collimated. Balance scope video: help: and are great sites.
