Aligning NorthStar For The First Time

I have successfully comleted the proccess all the way up until step 4 where it told me to choose a country and press enter, then choose the city that I am closest to and press enter, up until then everything was fine, but then instead of the message saying "Center Star 1", it says "Center Star 2", and if I attempt to continue the setup proccess, the message will next say "Center Star 3", I cannot get it to start with Center Star 1, I have tried removing the 9v battery from the NorthStar computerized base for several hours to allow it to reset itself, but it always starts out with Center Star

Hello, I have Bushnell Northstar 78-8831 telescope which I got from United States (New York) last year. Since the very first day, I am not able to get the option of "Align Start 1" After selecting Align Earth option, it directly goes to "Align start2". As a result, I am not able to align the planetary positions and manually align the telescope everytime. Can you please advise? Regards, Gaurav

This can be caused by many things-- such as dirt or grease on the encoders inside or a slipping clutch. I know you just bought this telescope, but Bushnell is NOT KNOWN for having quality telescopes. To get the goto to work everything must be according to the manual. The tripod needs to be perfectly level-- time, date, and site must be accurate, and the alignment objects must each be centered in the eyepiece. Sounds like you also have electronic issues with the hand controller. Only Bushnell can repair this scope.

Be sure that the Azimuth Axis is Lock, you migth want to try and move the telescope in the Azimuth to make sure it is it is locked. Be carful not to force it. I have seen on some post where the locking part of the Azimuth somtimes breaks. and the Azimuth Axis will just spin freely Locked down or not.

Fist time alignment issues.

Did you calibrate the motors and TRAIN the drives? If not do these first-- During alignment the "alignment" stars may or may NOT be visible in the eyepiece-- CENTER the star. Once you do this with two stars your gotos should be good.

I have a CPC11GPS telescope that was working the last time I used it, which was 6 months ago. It is in NEW NEW condition. I pulled it out last night, turned it on, allowed the system to align itself using the GPS system aboard. I then tried to center the first star using the RA and DEC directional buttons. The Dec buttons moved the telescope up and down, but the telescope would not move in RA. I also connected the scope to my SKY program, it also moved the scope in Dec, but not in RA. What could have happened since it was last used? The only previous problem I encountered was alignment and intermittent RA movement, I sent the scope to Celestron, who worked on it and returned it. Those problems were never corrected by Celestron, a year ago.

The clutch is not engaging in RA. Maybe the gears are not actually meshing together? A loose worm gear? You can open it up and look and see if anything obvious is loose. Otherwise it's a trip back to Celestron.

First time using the mead etx 60at. I turned it on and set the date / time / enter. Then set it at north and horizontal, enter. It asked if i wanted the easy alignment, I said yes. I said searching. Then it said the name of astar and said it was slewing but the telescope isn't moving.

Did you lock down BOTH clutches? You should have Calibrated motors and trained drives before you actually tried to do a goto.Read this manual completely:

GoTo Problem Please Help... im and going crazy!!! I have a Celestron Nextstar SLT 130 GoTo scope and love the pictures it produces but cant get it to GoTo very well. It dose the three star alignment, 1 star alignment and solar alignment fine and have no problems with alignment, level the scope well and set the time to nearly the second. Once aligned and i start to move the scope around the night sky, if i try to ask the socpe to slew back to a star, even an alignment satr, it goes in the general direction but doesn't bring the star into the view field and is off by a significant amount. I have tried centering the star in the view and then asking the scope to find that star and it goes out of the view by the same amount every time. Im goging crazy. I thought it was a motor problem and swaped the scope at the store but the new one is exactly the same. I just dont know what is wrong. Im in the southern skies and only reviews is for the northern, dont know if this matters. Any help would be fantastic. Just cant get it to slew to any objests correctly!

Be sure that the telescope is configured for EQ SOUTH mode to tell it is in the southern hemisphere. Once a star alignment is completed NEVER manually move the telescope. Use only the control panel to slew. Everytime the telescope is move by hand, the motors do not know it has been done, and assume it is still pointing at the old direction. Check the manual for setup. Here:
