You use eyepieces to zoom in and out. lower mm eyepieces like a 6mm will have a high magnification. and a high mm eyepiece will have a lower magnification.

Mars is a tiny object at best, needing about 400x to view. We are now fairly well past opposition, so it is even smaller. That power would call for a 3mm eyepiece (6mm with 2x barlow is the equivalent). Try the highest power eyepiece that you have.

Gluing the mirror back on the mount

A better solution would be to buy a commercially available mirror holder and mount this in the bottom. On these the mirror is held on the edge by clips --http://www.amateurtelescopemaker.com/cp.htm

Can you please advise if the wireless router should be left switched on or will it reduce the life of the router if I switch off when not in use

Should make no difference, however if you have not activated the security feature on it, anybody with a wireless device can gain access through your system.

I have an Orion SkyQuest XT8 Dobsonian. I have had it for 6 years or so. I can't see anything through the eye pieces. It just has black spots. is it the eye pieces or the telescope?

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object. Watch this video --http://www.andysshotglass.com/Collimating.html

I culmated my telescope and cant' get it to focus in. Using the focuser the image stays one big blob without any distinguishing figures.

Did you put an EYEPIECE into the focuser? Probably NOT.Take the scope out in the day time, put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. Practice focusing on a distant object. TURN the focuser knob slowly until the object comes into sharp focus.

HOW TO USE AN ORION SKYQUEST XT 4.5 REFLECTOR TELESCOPE

During the day time line-up the small finder scope with the main tube. Use the eyepiece with the largest number written on it. Site on a distant object with the main scope. Then line- up the crosshairs on the finder with out moving the main tube so BOTH are pointed at the same object.Locate a local Astronomy club and attend their star parties. You have a good beginners telescope by the way.Learn how to collimate the telescope. Watch this video.http://www.andysshotglass.com/Collimating.html

I recently aquired the bottom part of a Meade Lightbridge 10" Truss Dobsonian Telescope. This includes the Primary Mirror & tube that contains it plus the 3 Struts and not much else. I think I can make myself the Base, but the problem I have is with the top tube that holds the secondary mirror & focuser. I need to know the exact dimensions of this tube that holds the secondary mirror & focuser so I can match this with parts (the secondary mirror & tube, I already have a focuser I can use) I can buy from vendors. Alternatively, do you know of someone with an undamaged secondary mirror & tube for a 10" Meade Lightbridge Truss Dobsonian Telescope willing to sell it? call Ken at 615-832-7464 or e-mail at [email protected] and let me know Ken

Try posting this question on the www.cloudynights.com FORUM, either in the REFLECTORS topic, and or ATM, Optics Topic.Someone will answer you with the exact dimensions You can also post a Free Classified ad there -- a WANTED ad looking for the entire missing top section, Meade "may" also be willing to sell you this.www.meade.com.Clear Skies
