Meade DS 2000 Goto Reflector scope. I am looking for the base goto motor assembly housing witch houses the motor and gears. Can anybody please help?

You cannot actually get parts for this scope other than from Meade directly-- and possibly a USED motor on Ebay. Usually Meade wants you to send in the scope for repair and will not sell you any gears or motors.www.meade.com

One of the gears in the Azimuth motor got a flat spot because the worm gear was adjusted too tight. It is a 24 tooth nylon straight gear, very small- only about 1 cm across, but if this gear isn't working then the azimuth motor makes a good doorstop!! Who knows where to get replacement parts for these badly designed telescopes?

Below is the contact information for Meade parts. They are the only reliable source unless you know a local dealer that you can trust. http://www.meade.com/support/contact.html Jerry G. Meade Instruments Corporation6001 Oak CanyonIrvine, CA 92618(800) 626-3233 (U.S.A. Only)Fax: (949) 451-1460

My goto telescope will not slew upwards.

I'm assuming the motor works fine. First check this link for the instructional video and check you are doing everything right. (you need quicktime to view these - you can download it from the link if you need it ; http://www.meade.com/educational/ds%20videos/qt_chap1.html Here is the link to the Meade warranty page; http://www.meade.com/support/warranties.html If your scope is no longer under warranty, you can get spares here; http://www.meade4m.com/4mshop/parts/ They have fabulous pictures of all the available parts - Check in the "mount parts" section; They show a DS worm gear assembly, and a DS gear and washer set. You can probably see better than me, but it looks as if the worm gear traverses the scope, and the gear and washers in their housing elevate the scope. There may be more than they show parts for. The real trick will be to make sure you know how to reassemble the gears you dismantle - take a photo every time you remove something so you have a record when the replacement parts arrive. It is not the most complicated gear mechanism, but it is reasonably high precision, and relatively cheap materials, so be very careful or get someone fairly gentle and mechanically minded. If you need help, post me some photos back of what you need help with, happy to oblige. Hope this helps:)

I have a broken elevation spindle, the little aluminum casting that passes through the plastic driven gear and ultimately ends in 4 tapped holes that the sleeve bolts to that holds the optical tube. We tried to repair this with JB Weld Epoxy, and it held for one night, but it broke again when moving the scope. Is a replacement spindle casting available from any source? Although I am an engineer, and if money were no object, I could probably reverse engineer this part, produce a blueprint from many careful measurements, go to a foundry, and have a new one cast (or drop forged) in stainless steel, it would cost many times more than the telescope itself, and for that price I could just get a much bigger scope with a far more rugged mount. The original damage happened when the motorized mount was in a duffel bag that someone knocked off the tailgate of a pickup. It fell about 3 feet and impacted on hard rocky terrain. Visually it appeared to be undamaged until the weight of the tube was applied, then it was obvious something had broken. I have some pictures of the part and exactly where it goes if it has a different name than what I described. So i need a good part number for this part, a valid address and price and delivery information to order one from. If someone has built an aftermarket one from something like stainless steel or similar stronger material, so much the better, as it might also stiffen the scope and reduce vibration and oscillation when one bumps the eyepiece while observing.

Meade "MAY" sell you the part? Usually they want you to send the scope back. Call customer service:http://www.meade.com/support/index.htmlThis is also a problem on the ETX model scopes. There are some ingenious fixes posted on the Mighty ETX web site.Here:http://www.weasner.com/etx/menu.html Bassically bolts, washers and nuts.Search the web site for Broken DEC knob.

Upside down image

This is a phenomenon common to all astronomical telescopes. You need to get hold of an erecting lens, which will effectively flip the imag up the right way, although it will still show left/right reflection. You can't do anything about that, I'm afraid. It comes with the territory!I hope this answers your question.
