How to build homemade astro telescope?

You can build a Dobsonian style telescope -- look here- a refractor would be lots more expensive! for the optics-- however you can buy this small refractor being sold now for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 -- and see how they are constructed--

Just looking at the astro gazer 70 and astro nova 100 as first telescope for my 6 yr old. both have a 6 x 25mm finderscopes and the only difference i see is the 100 has four eyepieces (4.5mm, 9mm, 12.5mm, and 20mm) and the astro gazer 70 has two eyepieces (9mm and 20mm). Do I need the other eyepieces?

The 4.5mm is almost certainly too powerful (will give a dim and fuzzy image) and you can do without the 12.5mm. However, I am not sure that I would recommend either of these scopes. To make a real start at astronomy you need a larger objective than most "beginner" scopes offer, say 3 inches diameter for a refractor or 5 or 6 inches for a reflector. The cheap 60mm scopes tend to discourage rather than encourage interest.

I was trying out my old galileo telescope that i have'nt used in years, and i found out the zoom peace on the optical tube will not zoom in or out. I have opened the optical tube but have not found the problem.

These are imported telescopes and no repair facilities exist. Sorry--

I can not get the telescope to focus. The viewfinder will not focus in. and can't see anything out of the out of the optical tube.

This type of telescope is viewed from the small tube at the rear. Use the longest lens you have. Most people think that they need magnification, but that is not accurate. A 5 mm lens will only have 1/6th the field of view (how much sky you see) compared to a 30 mm. The picture below was taken through a 50 mm lens.

My New 12? Meade LX200 ACF GPS telescope does not have the two screw?s in the front and the rear of the top of the main optical tube for mounting a dovetail plate to the top center or does it have screws on the right side for mounting the finder scope on ether side like my 10? and 8? scopes had. There is only one screw in the front and back located in the optical tube not the soiled black main back or the soiled black corrector plate ring in the front. Is this the way they are making them now or is this a manufacture mistake, because if this is so you will not even be able to mount Meade?s dovetail mounting plate for all the mounting plates I have researched all have to have two screws that go all the way through the plate and the curved mounting blocks ion to the scopes front and back. If you know anything about this I would like to know because Meade does not even know the anser. Thanks, Laurence

You may need to mount just a rail like this one: can call Meade directly and ask:

Hello. My daughter received the 120mm Astro-Nova 525x telescope as a gift. There was an instruction paper for putting it together which I did. It also had the star chart and the "Getting the Most From Your New Telescope" DVD which did not work at all and looking over the parts I realized the CyberSky Interactive CD-ROM was missing. So, I have no idea how to use the telescope at all. It was purchased at Toy R Us but they weren't any help except to say to contact you directly. We have been unable to use it for months and right now since Jupiter is visible in the night sky and won't be for another 25 years, we want to learn how to work this telescope and soon! Could you please send me the DVD and CD-ROM, otherwise the purchase of this telescope was a complete waste of money for my mother and that saddens me, not to mention my daughter has not been able to use it. Thank you for your help.

I would be surprised if ToysRus told you to contact FixYa. This is an advice site largely manned by volunteers, with no connection to ToysRus or Edu-Science. I would suggest that you contact Edu-Science to get the missing CD, or insist that ToysRus refund for the defective (missing parts) item they have sold you.Don't worry about Jupiter. It is not going to disappear. I have been watching it for decades and it is almost always up there.

Insutrction manual Hello optics experts, I cannot seem to find the instruction manual for the "Polaris" 114EQ-D telescope, however I have found a manual for a "Jupiter" 114EQ-D. MY telescope is very old, is it possible that Meade just re-branded the telescope? Pictures in the manual I was able to find look exactly like the actual telescope I own.

Hi, I also have this telescope with no manual! I called the Meade customer service number at 1-800-626-3233 and they are going to email me the manual for this model. FYI - it's now called a Jupiter 114EQ-D. Hope this helps you!
