Motors dont work even with new batteries

I had the same problem. I removed the motor and drive assembly and used a pair of pilers to gently rotate the drive gear a few times in both directions. I re-installed it and it began to work again. I also noticed that the grease on the drive gear and shaft was very thick. Cleaned and up and re-applied a lithium based grease and it helped even more. Be sure to remove all old grease from the aluminium block that the drive gear shaft rest in. Good luck.

Leica disto classic 5a

The optical lens of a laser rangefinder must always be kept clean for optimal performance. The most common cause for a reduced range on this devices, is caused by dirty, or defective lens.If the lens are dirty, on the outer or inner side, or they are opaque or defective, or there is wet inside the lens, than that is the cause for the sensibly reduced range.

My Canon 10x30 IS binocs got corrosion in the battery compartment and the stabilization no longer works. I have cleaned it pretty well and put a light coat of oil on the contacts. The contacts look ok to me... So I put in a new set of batteries...but no help. What would you suggest as a next step? I was thinking that if I had some instructions maybe I could disassemble enough to thoroughly clean out the battery compartment.

You're going to have to ohm out or jumper the battery contacts inside the binoculars to see where you're getting a bad flow, and try to address that. Sometimes you can take a think piece of silver coated copper wire, or just copper wire, and make a new contact (solder the wire or glue it to the original contact). It's really hard to find instructions, per se, for binoculars, since Canon's repair facilities are the guys that have them, but you can learn a lot from blogs about them, in general, and usually enough to get the job done. Just google "binocular repair", and you will find many. I personally, would not coat the contacts with oil- that will just leave a barrier in the metal to metal contact that is essential in current transfer. Here's Canon's binocular site, in case you decide to replace some parts: Good luck, and hope this helps.
