It could be the grub screw on the knob needs tightening. If it is loose, the knob will just turn but the shaft wont.

PROBLEM WITH ETX125 The manual focus bar will not focus the telescope. Sent into Meade TWICE (once under warranty, once not!) and same problem reappeared AGAIN within months. I don't use the electronic focusing device. The problem is NOT the knob--it works. Problem is the pin focusing the OTA does not cause it to move. Anyone know how to take the OTA apart on a ETX125? I don't want to pay Meade another $150 bucks to get the same problem back!

You will find assembly and dis-assembly instructions with pictures on the Mighty ETX web site.Be very careful because all the wiring runs through the central bolt in the base and can be easily broken. Here are some good links:

Here?s my problem : My scope model is LX200R 14?. I?ve pulled the focuser shaft out of the focuser arm pin. I?ve turned the locking lock knob several turns before putting back the focuser shaft. I noticed that the primary mirror cell turned together with the lock gear when I turned the locking knob ! (Is this normal ?) Afterward I tried to hook the crosshole in the focuser screw over the focus rod again. Here comes my problem: the focus arm/rod is not aligned to the center of the focuser opening at the back plate of the scope! So I have to tilt the focuser shaft in order to hook the crosshole over the focus rod. At that skewed position, I can never reattach the focuser assembly to the back plate! I?ve tried to rotate the primary mirror cell and thus the focuser arm, but it comes to a STOP, short of the center position I desire. I?ve also tried to turn the primary mirror cell a full circle : by 360deg and see if the focuser rod would come to the center position : but no, it comes to a STOP, this time even more short of the center position. I am now scared : why the focuser arm pin has come off its original position ? Why there is a STOP preventing me to position the focuser arm pin back to its original center position ??? Can I ever hook the crosshole back over the focus rod and reattach the focuser assembly again ? Regards, Stewart

Steward, this is Joe Lalumia-- I have seen your post on various forums. The 14 inch is different from the other smaller LX200 scopes. Probably Dr. Clay, and or Andrew on the Yahoo Group LX200 forum will know the answer because they service these scopes.Post a message there (register for free) and one of them will answer you about that very nice scope.Clear Skies! Joe

Does my telescope needs acounter weight to keep it still even when the motor is off?

Hi.I have the same problem.I bought a few 1oz magnets and place them under the tube at the bottom by the mirror. They counter ballance the real eyepieces. Depending what I put in the focuser tube determines how many magnets. Better yet, dump that junk if you can.I hope to. Gerry

I've just purchased a used TAL 1 telescope complete with eyepieces and Barlow lens. However I can only get objects into focus by moving the focuser to it's limit and then physically lifting the eyepieces part-way out of the eyepiece holder. I don't think this is a collimating problem and my searches on the internet turned up a possible cure - a focuser extension tube (11/4"). Your assistance will be appreciated.

Yes, the "back focus" is too short. That extension should work.

Can't focus my meade etx-125. have turned focusing control more than 80x in both directions. Is there an stop on the focusing system. Originally had the electric focusing system on the scope couldn't focus then either. I have tried both indoors and out doors.

Yup there is a mechanical stop to prevent you from cracking the mirror by retracting or extending it too far.. once you break the pin off it needs to go to the factory for dis-assembly as they have to remove the primary to get to it and realign it my 105 did same thing....word of advise use a cable extender for focus not an electric focuser they fail to tell you that it can over run the built in stops making your scope useless...i may be mistaken but i believe the max turns is 25 or about for end to end focusing adjustment on the 125

Bought the scope about 4 years ago. Fairly light use and not used in last 12 months. Was checking it recently and replaced batteries etc. Horizontal motor movement is fine however no vertical motor movement. No obstructions and vertical movement is OK my hand. No motor sound. Handset identified a motor problem. Any idea? Ian

I had the same problem with the horizontal movement. found a little corrosion on both ends of the control cable. Cleaned it with some contact cleaner and a q-tip.

My scope can't make a full (360 degree) turn even when the RA lock is off. I recently just re-tightened the screws holding thre gears because they were loose. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for the reply. When you tighten the screws too much it's clearly causing the gear teeth to mesh too tightly, or there may be an over-long screw protruding through somewhere which needs grinding down.Check with Meade customer care, sometimes they're aware of issues like these and will have a repair kit available or an information sheet which helps to prevent the problem recurring.
