Take it back to the store and get a refund then buy your son this telescope-- http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=09814Do not buy Tasco, Bushnell, Jupiter, Baytronic or any other department store junk telescope. Sorry but it costs at least $200 to get a small good telescope-- and the prices go up from there. Also run away from any telescope that has pretty color pictures on the box taken by the Hubble Space Telescope-- or that has the POWER listed on the box (something like 550x) --- magnification is not important...... most of us us less than 100 power even in LARGE 8-10 inch telescopes costing thousands of dollars.

My ETX-60 remote turns on but immediately turns back off, ive tried new batteries but it still turns right off, the red light on the telescope stays on but the remot doesnt, any fixes?

About the only thing you can do is buy another hand controller-- contact Meade for a new one.I am assuming the hand controller cable cannot be replaced check it anyway and see if you can get someone to replace the plastic plug that goes into the telescope on the cable. Sometime these go bad. Any "network" cable guy should be about to replace the end.http://www.meade.com/support/index.html

ETX-125 Autostar controller not working

My ETX 125 did this to me, here's what happened I had a 497 autostar hooked up to it and it quit working the scope stopped dead and the autostar went dead i hooked another autostar up to it and the same thing happened I took the scope apart and noticed that the wires for the upper motor run through the bolt that tightens the rotational clutch on the base, the clutch handle mechanism in the base sliced through the wiring and shorted out the 12v black wire onto the autostar data yellow wire, this sent 12v back into the autostar and fried it. both autostar circuit boards were destroyed as the short caused the custom programmed microchip to burn and blister. I am in the process of repairing mine and getting a new autostar computer. I would recommend against asking a friend to try thier autostar box on your scope for obvious reasons.

Hi, Inherited a North Star Bushnell telescope. No instruction manual. I downloaded that. The little corded thing works but the motor doesn't seem to be working to turn the telescope in the right direction. There is one 9 volt battery installed near the remote thing. Do I need more batteries for the motor? If so, where do they go? Also, (I feel really stupid) why is everything upside down when I look through the eyepiece? One more stupid question....I know the mirror is at one end, at the other end is a small cap in the center of the large cap. Do I only remove the small cap or do I take off the whole big cap when I want to use the telescope? One more not stupid question. Can I buy a case that is specifically for this telescope, if so where? Thank you, Teresa

I don't know about the motor on this scope.Astronomical telescopes usually show an upside down image. There is a good reason for this- erecting the image needs more bits of glass in the light path, which reduces the amount of light and increases aberrations. Even if this is only slight, astronomers prefer to avoid it, and they don't really care which way up the Moon or Jupiter appear. It is possible to fit an erecting prism or eyepiece to most astronomical telescopes, and some of them come with one.You remove the whole large cap to use the telescope.I don't know about cases for this scope. I just leave my scope set up in the corner of the dining room.

MEADE LX90 TELESCOPE

Had the same problem. Took it to a dealer and we put a new controller on but the funny thing was that my old controller worked fine on another scope but it would not work on mine. Agreed with "Guest" above - Mead's after sales service is bad.

I have an issue on my meade ET90 AT. I have a motor failure message after the telescope try to find a star. Now when I turn on I received a message from the autostar to press 0 or mode in both case it start the test motor and appear the message Motor fault. I change the batteries but it doesn't change the result. When I turn on and I received the message "0 or press mode" if I try to push the arrows button the telescope move right and left but no up and down. I called the meade customer service and after 30 seconds they told me to bring the telescope to their repair center. Thanks

Try this.1. Do a RESET on the hand controller.2. Reenter your Site, Date, and Time.3. Calibrate MotorsNow see if that fixed it. If not it will need to be returned to Meade because a gear or circuit is broken inside the scope.

Cant see a thing!!!!

Use the laser pointer that you put on the telescope when you were putting it together. or take the whole front cover off and look at the reflector and see if you see anything if you do try it again and see if this info helps please respond thanks and your welcome

My telescope will not turn on. I changed the battery holder and put in fresh batteries but the red light will not come on. Any idea how to fix this?

You could have a BAD hand controller cable -- try a new cable. If this does not work then the scope has a blown power circuit board. Only Meade can repair this.http://www.meade.com/support/index.html

Autostar I recently purchased a used ETX-125EC. There is only one problem. The autostar screen does not show or do anything. The batteries are installed correctly, the controller is plugged into the correct port and the power light turns on on the telescope base. There is even a faint red light from the auto star screen. Does this mean I need a new controller or is there something more dubious at work here?

Double check the cable from the Autostar to the telescope. Sometimes the ends go bad. They can be replaced with regular telephone cables.
