I do agree, the problem is repairers do not get a technical manual from manufacturer and there is no apparent tuning screw, when you have to take away (and probably destroy) the whole rubber coating to discover the screws location, it is a very rough way to proceed, any other ideas ? Thanks

Vivitar 7x42 Hawkeye Rubber Armored

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but when you buy a mass production product this is what happens. now you have to find someone who can repair them. of course a few people can. but is it worth the while for them to work on it....no....shipping etc. would cost more than the price you paid. sorry larry@reichinstruments.com

I need set screws for the center focus wheel on my

Apart from buying a parts binocular it is hard to get what you are looking for. You could try Surplus Shed in the US. They sell 'grab' bags of screws and other small parts. Not expensive and you may get lucky. The only other alternative is to contact a specialist repair shop such as Kay Optical in the UK.

We gave our son a pair of Bushnell Binoculars, and we are having difficulty getting a good image. We have carefully followed the instructions with no luck. The problem is that we are getting a double image, and the only way to avoid this is to make the interpupillary distance so small that you can't see through with both eyes.

The binoculars need collimation. The two sides are supposed to be parallel, if they are not you see two heads on horses, two footballs, two baseball bats etc. Check the binoculars for any external signs of damage. Are the front housings sitting properly in the body, is one of them not straight? If there is no obvious signs then you will need to take them to someone who can rebuild them for you. Usually the place where you bought them should be able to help you with a repair centre.

The neckholder screw has become detached from the Saxon 12x32 binoculars and a piece is missing which is also causing the binoculars to be loose on one side making them almost unusable. I need to know where these can be repaired locally. I live in Albany Creek on the Northside of Brisbane.

Still waiting for an answer from Saxon.

The diopter setting eyepiece has come out of the body of my Bushnell 10X42 ''Waterproof'' binoculars, model 13-2410. I see keyways inside, but cannot screw it back in more than about 1/4 turn, which is insufficient to focus right. Can you instruct me how to fix it?

The entire diopter setting eyepiece was off.I separated the eye cup from the rest of the diopter setting eyepiece, and aligned the channel guides on the lens piece to slide it into place. Then holding it in place, taking care not to gum up the lens, I experimented with how to screw in the retainer ring so that its white dot registered correctly. Finally reattach the eye cup and focus. It's like new!

My Canon 10x30 IS binocs got corrosion in the battery compartment and the stabilization no longer works. I have cleaned it pretty well and put a light coat of oil on the contacts. The contacts look ok to me... So I put in a new set of batteries...but no help. What would you suggest as a next step? I was thinking that if I had some instructions maybe I could disassemble enough to thoroughly clean out the battery compartment.

You're going to have to ohm out or jumper the battery contacts inside the binoculars to see where you're getting a bad flow, and try to address that. Sometimes you can take a think piece of silver coated copper wire, or just copper wire, and make a new contact (solder the wire or glue it to the original contact). It's really hard to find instructions, per se, for binoculars, since Canon's repair facilities are the guys that have them, but you can learn a lot from blogs about them, in general, and usually enough to get the job done. Just google "binocular repair", and you will find many. I personally, would not coat the contacts with oil- that will just leave a barrier in the metal to metal contact that is essential in current transfer. Here's Canon's binocular site, in case you decide to replace some parts: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/binoculars Good luck, and hope this helps.
