Lots of movement

I have never had a telescope before but my son Will won one for raising money for JRDF (Juvenile Diabetes research Foundation). We found out Will had type 1 diabetes 1-27-2005. Anyway Will raised $15,142.00. He picked the Galileo Fs-102ctc for his prize. The probelm I am having is that there seems to be a lot of play where the counter weight and telescope attach. It just doesn't seem very steady. It has about one eighth inch play in it. Is that normal. Thanks for any help you can offer me. Tim

C10-NGT RA+DEC clamps and the motors

Holy man.. response is kinda slow. Good thing I tried it myself. Sure as heck, you can leave the Right Ascension and Declination clamps tight while using the motors! It makes a lot of sense, and many things much easier....Thanks for the.. reply? lol. Just joking.=)

Altitude dial The pointer on the altitude dial does not rotate with the up and down movement of the telescope's main barrel or tube. It slips. I had this problem with my first telescope and Bushnell replaced it with a new telescope under the warranty provisions. The replacement telescope has exactly the same problem right out of the box.

The altitude scale on these small telescope are virtually useless and cannot help you find objects in the sky-- Don't worry about it --- just use the scope and a star chart to find things in the sky. A free monthly star chart that you can download is available here:

Hand controller not working

You have broken something inside the hand controller-- the computer is in the hand controller NOT in the telescope. Contact Celestron for a replacement hand controller or advice.

Received used scope and know squat!

Meade's website has manuals on most of their product - since they make hundreds of styles, an exact manual may not be available - just choose one that is closest. Things are inverted and reversed, as it is an astronomical telescope, and it does not matter what the orientation is when viewing the sky. To get the images part way corrected, use the diagonal mirror before the eyepiece and look in the downward position. images will be correct in the Up/Down direction, but not left/right. That is why binoculars have 2 prisms to correct the image.

Bought the scope about 4 years ago. Fairly light use and not used in last 12 months. Was checking it recently and replaced batteries etc. Horizontal motor movement is fine however no vertical motor movement. No obstructions and vertical movement is OK my hand. No motor sound. Handset identified a motor problem. Any idea? Ian

I had the same problem with the horizontal movement. found a little corrosion on both ends of the control cable. Cleaned it with some contact cleaner and a q-tip.
