C10-NGT RA+DEC clamps and the motors

Hey, I have a question for you guys. I have a feeling it's going to be obvious. When using the motors in the C10-NGT reflector telescope model, do the RA and DEC clamps have to be tightened for no manual movement in order to use the motors at maximum efficiency? Or do you leave the clamps absolutely loose, so there can be manual movement, and motor movement? The only thing I've been trying is leaving the clamps loose; I'm afraid that I'll wreck the motors if I tighten the clamps and the motors will be trying to move, while the clamps are tightened. So, leave the clamps tight or loose while

C10-NGT RA+DEC clamps and the motors

Holy man.. response is kinda slow. Good thing I tried it myself. Sure as heck, you can leave the Right Ascension and Declination clamps tight while using the motors! It makes a lot of sense, and many things much easier....Thanks for the.. reply? lol. Just joking.=)

Cant see any thing

Did you remove the lens cap? If the scope is like the picture in your question this is a REFLECTOR style telescope. It has a mirror in the bottom and a smaller secondary mirror under the focuser. The FOCUSER end is pointed UP. as in the picture above. Can you focus on a distant object during the day time? Use the eyepiece with the largest number written on it and DO NOT USE the 2x barlow if you have one. Try focusing during the day time. If this works your telescope is OK. Then try the moon at night as your first target. If you can see the moon up close all is OK.Read my TIPS on my profile page.

I have an issue on my meade ET90 AT. I have a motor failure message after the telescope try to find a star. Now when I turn on I received a message from the autostar to press 0 or mode in both case it start the test motor and appear the message Motor fault. I change the batteries but it doesn't change the result. When I turn on and I received the message "0 or press mode" if I try to push the arrows button the telescope move right and left but no up and down. I called the meade customer service and after 30 seconds they told me to bring the telescope to their repair center. Thanks

Try this.1. Do a RESET on the hand controller.2. Reenter your Site, Date, and Time.3. Calibrate MotorsNow see if that fixed it. If not it will need to be returned to Meade because a gear or circuit is broken inside the scope.

I can't find any documentation on how to remove the primary mirror for cleaning. I'm a newb and don't want to mess anything up. Thanks, Bob

First -- how do you know the mirror needs cleaning? Did you shine a flaslight down the tube and see some dust? Never use a flashlight to determine if a mirror is dirty-- they are ALL dirty when you use a flashlight to check them.Only clean the mirror if it is interferring with the views through the scope. There is a ring around the back-- remove those screws and the mirror should come out-- don't driop it! Then remove the mirror from the mirror cell.

I'm trying to use a T mount with a Canon DSLR. For some reason I can't get it to focus. Any help?

Sometimes certain cameras will NOT come to focus, especially in short tube reflector style telescopes. There is not enough back-focus to achieve focus.

Celestron advanced gt declination motor does not working

You did tighten the clutches? If you did the DEC gears are either loose and not meshing or have broken. Dr. Clay in Arkansas can repair this scope but it would cost several hundred dollars-- Celestron will probably sell you the parts to fix it. Here is their web site. You can also return the mount to them for repair.http://www.celestron.com/c3/support3/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1790&nav=0,220

I have a Meade LX-90 8 inch telescope that gets a motor fault failure in declination. I have done all the usual attempts to fix it Ex. train drive which geberates error, swap out autostar, autostar cable, reseat cables on the dec motor board etc. On approx 11/2010 I posted this same question to FixYa and they gave me the name of a person who I beleive lived in Haverhill Mass who I contacted thru the Yahoo LX-90 user group and was planning on bringing my scope to him for possible repair. As luck would have it I had a harddrive failure and lost all infomation about this person (should have put the info on paper) Yup I know about backups, had external HD backup which did not work. Is it possible that you would still have this persons name so I could contact him again. Thank You In Advance John Maher Hudson Ma [email protected]

Well it could be several people:Ron Sampson -- available on the Yahoo LX90 group post a message for him- he can repair any of the boards inside the scope and also the hand controller.or The Astronomy Shoppe- http://www.astronomy-shoppe.com/

Meade will repair this scope but you will need to send it to them-- they don't usually sell parts.

When I press 0 on the autostar panel to initialize, I get, "motor unit fault". What is the problem?

Do you have brand new batteries? low power will cause this. Also a broken gear inside will also cause this to happen.
