Cannot attach tripod plate to scope - stripped receptacle

I have had a Minox scope for about 1 year, and recently noticed that I am having difficulty keeping the tripod plate attached to the scope. Just fiigured out that the receptacle screwhole in the scope body is stripped for the first 2 threads. The threads deeper inside seem to be fine, but the screw is not long enough to grasp these. Does anyone know if longer screws are available to attach the tripod plates, or is this something I need to have Minox fix? Thanks!

The mount adapter part of the scope that attaches to the tripod has a screw missing (1/4 " metric) and it won't stay tight on the scope with just the large center screw. Where can I get a new screw? or can I replace the complete mount adapter? it is very worn and the rubber on the inside is also very worn-out.

Bring it in to your local hardware store (Ace, or Truevalue, etc.), generally one of those places will have just about any nut or bolt you need. Also apply a small amount of locktite before re-installing to screw, this will keep it from falling out.

I canot turn the 60MM Bausch and Lomb "The Discoverer" Zoom sideways without difficulty. Also I cannot focus on a bird that I'm attempting to identify our my picture window. The up and down movement of the telescope on my tripod performs perfectly. I've examined the adjustments carefully but cannot move the scope sideways with ease. Don't use the barlow - it's too much magnification for such a small telescope.

How to realign a permanent base for a 16'' Meade LX200 Telescope

You will not need the GPS to work once you are polar aligned, especially if you use the PARK feature before you turn it off.If the base can be rotated to within 1 or 2 degrees of true North you can use the RA adjustments on the wedge to compensate for the error. Is this a commercial wedge or one that someone welded together from steel? If it is commercial it should have RA adjustments. BUT, you will still need to get near true North or you will not have enough adjustment to correct the final few degrees of error. If you can point the scope at Polaris you will be within "range" of the possible wedge adjustment. This may help you:http://www.tucsonastronomy.org/pier.htm see step #2http://www.ccastronomy.org/photos_home_observatories_reil.htm see #8http://www.pier-tech.com/telescope_pier_installation.htmHope this helps you.

Fuzzy bright stars with my Celestron CPC 1100 XLT

The image shows that the optics are not centered properly. The secondary may be tilted slightly to the 2 o'clock position. When not centered, a focused star will have an astigmatic shape, and not come to a full focus. Also check the mirror and corrector plate for dewing, that will also affect the views.
