Lens size/ power

I got this telescope and love it. However, I cannot find any of the more powerful lenses from vivitar. Does anyone know where I can find some with a power greater than 100x that will fit this scope? I have tried ebay and the like with no luck. Thanks

Suggested Questions And Answer :

Lens size/ power

It is generally bad to go higher than 50 power per inch aperture, due to the wave nature of light. It will magnify, but the image will get steadily worse, and be 'fuzzy' and unable to sharpen. If the telescope is 60mm, then the maximum practical power is 118x If you insist on going higher, consider the use of a barlow. That will make the eyepieces that you have go 2x greater magnification.

I am wondering how good you should be able to see images through a bushnell skytour 78-9960 telescope i can see the moon good but all the planets are really small and cant tell them from stars really. i have a 1.5x eyepiece 12.5mm lens 8mm lens and 4mm lens. Am i doing something wrong or is it just my telescope isn't powerful enough to see objects with any detail for like saturn or jupiter?

700mm FL with an aperture of 60mm gives you a focal ratio of 11.6, so you shouldn't even try using any EP with a FL shorter than 11.6mm, which mean only the 12.5mm would be of any use. Unless you can find a pitch black area with 0 light pollution and excellent seeing, then you could perhaps still get away with the 8mm. So with the 12.5mm, you're talking about a 56X magnification, so it would be rather hard seeing any details on the planets. You should be able to see Jupiter's moons (tiny dots) and Saturn's rings though.

Cannot focus a Meade Refractor "Electronic Digital" series

All of Meade's manuals are listed here--http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.htmlTake it outside during the day time-- put the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it into the telescope--- this is the LOWEST magnification.Point it at a distant object and practice focusing-- the moon should be your first night time object.

No matter what lens specification i install of the 3 that were supplid by meade, the object( any object.......the moon in this particular case) is never in focus. it is only ever in sharp focus when i move the eyepiece about an inch away from the telescope and hold it in my hand. not ideal i know, but the moon does then appear in very sharp focus. its as id the size of the eyepiece lens is too small. what to do. whats missing?

If possible turn the lens extension around. also there should be an adjustment you can make right on the eyepeice. turn it left or right
