LX6 Hand controller....error message - Meade 8" LX90 LNT Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope with SmartFinder w/ FREE UPS

If the hand controller on the LX6 has stopped working you have a problem since meade does not support this very old telescope. My only suggestion would be to place an ad on www.astromart.com looking for a new hand controller. If the error message indicates a "motor fault" make sure you have a good power supply and or fresh batteries-- as low voltage will cause a motor fault error.Later you said it was an LX90 LNT-- ?? so which scope do you actually own???

When I press the mode key nothing happens. - Meade 8" LX90 LNT Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope with SmartFinder w/ FREE UPS

Nothing will happen if you at the TOP of the menu tree. The mode key serves several purposes. First it works like the ESCAPE key on a computer and backs you out of the current menu UP in the menu tree one level each time you push it.If you hold it down for 2 seconds you get another menu with additional features..Check your manual for the menu tree diagram. If you are already at the TOP of the menu tree nothing happens. If the key does not work at all then the contact under the key is worn out. You can buy a "kit" to repair the contacts-- but of course you must dis-assemble the controller.

MEADE LX90 TELESCOPE

Had the same problem. Took it to a dealer and we put a new controller on but the funny thing was that my old controller worked fine on another scope but it would not work on mine. Agreed with "Guest" above - Mead's after sales service is bad.

Actually, its NOT about an LX90, but rather my Meade LX6 10", f/6.3 scope...whos hand controller is displaying error messages from the encoders on power up. Can you help me? Great scooe, recent problem, no help from Meade AT ALL. Thanks, Jeff Thompson, [email protected], (336) 712-3341

Thanks Paulmo....but adjustments and cleaning haven't fixed it....and I have tried some other encoders, but they were not successful.....probably since they were NOT the exact matches to the Meade encoders. Looks like NObody has a solution. But keep trying and let me know if YOU haver some success. Thanks again. JeffTcom

My great Meade LX6 10 ", F/6.3 scope...has developed a vexing problem in the hand paddle controller attached to the RA & DEC encoders. After starting to initialize or boot up....it suddenly goes to ERR message, instead of displaying the coordinates. Meade, of course, disavowes any help under what was termed a "life-time"warranty when I bought the scope. Suspecting an encoder I've tried to locate a replacement for the RA, where initialization reportely begins, but can't locate a match. I've also swapped the identical DEC encorderinto the RA position...but the Error persists. Parhaps the flaw is somewhere else...but only weeks ago, it was all running just fine. CAn you offer any help or suggestions. Thanks, Jeff Thompson, [email protected], (336) 712-3341

My scope sat in a basement for years and when I started it up I got an error the same as you discribe. Through sear luck I found it to be a bad connection where the encoder wire pluged into the battery box.

LX90 8" LNT Polar alignment

The only reason you would want to polar align is to do astro-photography which will be difficult from your location.Use the scope in normal ALT AZ configuration. Calibrate motors, Train Drives, make sure time, date, site, are set correctly. The Calibrate sensors function sets the magnetic deviation for your SITE. Not really that important because when you center two alignment stars everything is corrected anyway. So take the wedge off the tripod --- you can still do short duration astro-photography usually not exceeding 12 second exposures and then STACK the images using software.

LX90 Dec pointing out by 4 degrees over run

Go onto www.cloudynights.com and post this in the LX member forum-- and or go on YAHOO groups and post this in the LX90 forum--Are you absolutely sure that your TIME and DATE and DAYLIGHT SAVINGS (yes-no) are correct. On my LX90 the first alignment star is always NOT in the eyepiece but everything is OK once I center both alignment stars.
