When you say lens, did you unscrew the eye piece or the actual lense? because the eyepiece is meant to fit your adaptor for 35mm cameras etc. but the actual front lense should be tightly sealed and thread locked to make your glass (scope) waterproof to some extent and to protect the alignment of the other lenses within your scope. If it is possible your local camera shop may have the ability to re-align and seal your scope, but if not do you have a warranty? and if not even that, if i were you i would align and accraglass your piece back together, it's a last ditch solution that should last for years.

How do I remove the black paper disk like thing on the telescope lens?

That BLACK PAPER is there to cause the trap of light and dust and etc from the MIRROR and is held in place usally with adjustable locking screws to balance the reflective properties of the lens.

I would strip the wires as carefully as I could and get them back together, get the 2 AA batteries back in there, and see what happens. Then go about making a permanent splice in the wires and getting the lens to stay on there, or ship it back to Russia for repairs. Or find somebody to do it. I'm sure it can be done. Hope this helps.

I would like to know how to dis-assemble an old Swift Vega Binoculars. It is a Nighthawk 7X50, model #788. The inside of the lens need to be cleaned and maybe the mirrors, but I am not sure how to take it apart. I am having difficulty finding out how to remove the large lens to clean the inside and to check out the rest of the inner workings for dust.

The old swift nighthawk is a nice bino, has lasted all these years and is well worth repair ...the problem is if you do it yourself you will only make it worse as there will be more more dust inside than when you started unless you have an air hose to blow off optics after polishing, also once you disturb the optics you will certainly put it out of alignment. have repaired many of these thru the years, actually worked for swift in boston years ago. why mess it up ...larry 5088331232

I was given a Optisan 900114 scope minus the starfinder lens, view lens and there seems to be a piece of glass missing on the scope. There is a broken knob. I would like to try to fix it myself but what I need to know is whether it is worthwhile buying the parts and how do they fit together, hence I need service manual. I have fixed cars and am an electronics technician so I presume I am capable of acquiring the necessary skills. Thanksfor any help, TREVOR FERNANDEZ

This scope is NOT worth repairing, as the repairs would be more expensive than just buying another telescope. These can be found in good condition-- a small reflector on a EQ 1 mount for less than $50 on craigslist.com

Lens size/ power

It is generally bad to go higher than 50 power per inch aperture, due to the wave nature of light. It will magnify, but the image will get steadily worse, and be 'fuzzy' and unable to sharpen. If the telescope is 60mm, then the maximum practical power is 118x If you insist on going higher, consider the use of a barlow. That will make the eyepieces that you have go 2x greater magnification.
