Orion SkyQuest XT6 Classic Dobsonian

I just bought a Orion SkyQuest XT6 Classic Dobsonian and set it up, it came w/ the laser and I centered the mirror. However when I pointed it at mars it appeared to look the same as when I looked through the finder scope. Obviously I have missed something but I can't figure out what. By the way the is the first telescope I have ever owned and know nothing about them.

Orion SkyQuest XT6 Classic Dobsonian

Mars is a tiny object at best, needing about 400x to view. We are now fairly well past opposition, so it is even smaller. That power would call for a 3mm eyepiece (6mm with 2x barlow is the equivalent). Try the highest power eyepiece that you have.

I culmated my telescope and cant' get it to focus in. Using the focuser the image stays one big blob without any distinguishing figures.

Did you put an EYEPIECE into the focuser? Probably NOT.Take the scope out in the day time, put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. Practice focusing on a distant object. TURN the focuser knob slowly until the object comes into sharp focus.

I bought a skyquest xt10i telescope and am trying

A star is always just a point of light no matter what magnification you use! If you are seeing a "disk" when you focus on a star you are NOT focused! Make it a tiny dot.Why not try focusing on the moon or Mars and Saturn. You will always need to re=focus slightly when you move to another sky object.
