I have a broken elevation spindle, the little aluminum casting that passes through the plastic driven gear and ultimately ends in 4 tapped holes that the sleeve bolts to that holds the optical tube. We tried to repair this with JB Weld Epoxy, and it held for one night, but it broke again when moving the scope. Is a replacement spindle casting available from any source? Although I am an engineer, and if money were no object, I could probably reverse engineer this part, produce a blueprint from many careful measurements, go to a foundry, and have a new one cast (or drop forged) in stainless steel, it would cost many times more than the telescope itself, and for that price I could just get a much bigger scope with a far more rugged mount. The original damage happened when the motorized mount was in a duffel bag that someone knocked off the tailgate of a pickup. It fell about 3 feet and impacted on hard rocky terrain. Visually it appeared to be undamaged until the weight of the tube was applied, then it was obvious something had broken. I have some pictures of the part and exactly where it goes if it has a different name than what I described. So i need a good part number for this part, a valid address and price and delivery information to order one from. If someone has built an aftermarket one from something like stainless steel or similar stronger material, so much the better, as it might also stiffen the scope and reduce vibration and oscillation when one bumps the eyepiece while observing.
I have the opportunity to buy a used one of these telescopes it is not the new version and has a black metal body and is just a simmons not including meade in the name. The main mirror is misalighned but that can be fixed to the best of my knowledge the price is $50 and i dont know if i should get it. I am 14 and this will be my first "real" telescope but i have experiance with my dads refractor telescope.

I guess I pressed the 'ENTER' / 'MODE' , 'GO TO' buttons too fast, too many times & overloaded my Hand box(#494) and now it is Blank, just a red glow. Is there any way I can reload it? I talked to a Meade employee & he told me I cannot get the original info back into the Handbox, that I can only 'Up-Date' new info, but not get original info back into it, I have to buy a new Handbox for $105. plus shipping. Can you help me. I do not at this time have a Meade Cable connector kit #506, which I would need to connect my Scope to my computer, but will purchase one if I can re-load my Handbox over the Meade website with it. Thanks for any help you can give me. -Ernie Riedel
Astromaster114eq i gave my husband a telescope for his bday. Hes never used one before but has always wanted one. hes been researching all day and getting all ready to use his new telescope tonight, but we cant for some reason zoom in or see closer anything. it looks just like we are looking with our own eyes. is there something special that we need to do in order to make it work?
Just use the lens with the larger number on it such as 25mm by itself. If that doesn't work you may need to adjust the mirrors the could have been knocked out of alinement durning shipping.. Read More At : Optics...
I have a Meade ETX 60 / 70 AT. When I moved to Louisville a few years ago. The telescope would no longer initiate and could not find my location. I put the telescope away and did nothing with it. It is a great piece of equipment and I would like to get going again. I called Meade customer service and they said to buy a new one. My question is - anybody who could evaluate the telescope? Any contacts, clubs, etc? Any help would be appreciated. Bill
Most repairs will be MORE than the telescope is worth. You can buy these used (and working) on AstroMart.com from time to time for under $200.Meade will repair this for about $175. So it makes no sense. The only thing I would try is a new hand controller cable. If it still does not work then you may be able to seell it for parts on astromart.com Read More At : Telescope...
