Focus is really hard to turn.

Is there a special lubricant for the focus mechanism that I should use to lubricate them? The binoculars are over 20 yrs old. Would you recommend Zeiss to do this work instead of myself?

My Nikon Action 8 x 40CF binoculars, 6 years old, are not giving me such sharp images. I have never before used the diopter ring (at base or right eyepiece) to try and focus because the central focus ring seemed to do the job and the diopter ring has never seemed to do anything, even when the bins were new. It rrotates a short distance between -, 0 and + but when I turn it there's no visible difference between these settings. Is it not functioning? Am I using it correctly (it seems I am from consulting the rather inadequate Nikon manual).

Possible that the set screws are loose and not turning the eyepiece inside..other than that try cleang the lenses...larry@reichinstruments

The adjustment knob was very hard to turn. Any way to lubricate?

I would be inclined to use a penatrative aerosol lubricant (like WD-40) in very sparse quantities. Squirt a little in using the WD40 smart straw applicator to direct the lube accurately and work the adjuster back and forth in a small section. Repeat this until you have freed up the adjustment from one end of its scope to the other. The focal adjustment is typically housed separately to the lenses and careful application of the lube should not affect them - avoid overusing the lube and have a mopup cloth under the spray zone to keep overspray/drips to an absolute minimum.

My 18x50 IS binoculars are broken; the right eye piece won't focus and I hear a clunk inside when I turn it over; the left focuses just fine. What can I do and where; here in las vegas?

Sounds like you've dislodged one of the prisms inside. A service center can look it over for you, but from personal experience, it's cheaper to replace them than pay to ship them to/from the service folks plus the estimation fee just to find out that they'll have to be replaced, anyway. Sorry.

Focus and eye adjuster very hard to turn on zeiss silvarem 6 x 30 binoculars (ebay purchase) thanks, dennis

Does the item looks very used? Is it moving at all or frozen? the only thing that can cause your focus to tighten up would be the iternal geering loose/bent/broken. Its a very simple design and takes a lot to break under normal use. You may be able to put a little oil on it and see if it loosen up.

Why has focusing wheel stopped turning?

Perhaps only a screw got lose, or perhaps something broke. Don't try to repair this yourself. Goto a certified Swarofski crevice centre, or go back to your dealer.
