From one day to the next-all of a sudden, when I press the range finder button, the cross hairs and everything fades away. I have changed the battery with 2 different ones. If you let the unit set for a few days, you can press the button and all the functions appear, but then press again and everything fades away.

Hi this sounds to me like an internal power supply problem, I would say that what happens is that the main filter capacitor inside the power supply is charging up, over the time left alone, then that is enough to "Power it briefly" when first turned ON, however, when a full draw is further required, the power supply fails, or "Sags" as "we' say..It may also be the voltage regulator that is involved too.
What to do, well in reality there is little DIY that can be done on such a delicate and sophisticated instrument. So one has little alternative, if there is a view to a repair, other than contacting Bushnell, and asking them "What to do?" either take it to a recommended servicing center, or send back to them? Now if worried about costings, then please simply first ask for a "Quote" as to the type of and cost of any prospective repairs, this way at least you can make an informed decision, as to what to do repair or replace?
First though, have you tried Alkaline heavy duty batteries... any? HD batteries, even NiMH, Ni-cads? just to make sure there is no battery aspect to the whole thing as i have had "Battery" problems many many times at my shop, all batteries are NOT created equal, once i had to go through many batteries before i found "Proper" ones that worked even though the others were ostensibly "New". So make sure. Read More At : Yardage Pro Tour XL Rangefinder...
