Konus 200 telescope mount

Hi: I'm trying to locate a replacement part for the RA drive on my Konus 200 telescope. I need the axle for the manual control knob. This axle also has the drive gear and threads for the clutch mechanism. Konus doesn't respond to mym inquiries. Can you point me to a source for this part?

My New 12? Meade LX200 ACF GPS telescope does not have the two screw?s in the front and the rear of the top of the main optical tube for mounting a dovetail plate to the top center or does it have screws on the right side for mounting the finder scope on ether side like my 10? and 8? scopes had. There is only one screw in the front and back located in the optical tube not the soiled black main back or the soiled black corrector plate ring in the front. Is this the way they are making them now or is this a manufacture mistake, because if this is so you will not even be able to mount Meade?s dovetail mounting plate for all the mounting plates I have researched all have to have two screws that go all the way through the plate and the curved mounting blocks ion to the scopes front and back. If you know anything about this I would like to know because Meade does not even know the anser. Thanks, Laurence

You may need to mount just a rail like this one: can call Meade directly and ask:

Konus 200 telescope mount

Most of these German Equatorial mounts are sourced from various factories in China and are knockoffs of earlier Japanese models. Konus and other rebranders simply by a lot from one of the factories and do not provide parts or service support. If you have the Konus Newtonian telescope, (200 mm diameter (7.8"), focal 1000 mm.) with heavy-duty equatorial mount, I think that it's made by Jinghua. This is a pretty common mount (Meade sold it for a while and still sells a Jinghua as the LXD-75). Your best bet it to post a wanted ad on Cloudy Nights Classifieds. There are a few of us that keep inventories of spare parts from damaged equipment fro service and repairs. HTH, Geo.

I have a broken elevation spindle, the little aluminum casting that passes through the plastic driven gear and ultimately ends in 4 tapped holes that the sleeve bolts to that holds the optical tube. We tried to repair this with JB Weld Epoxy, and it held for one night, but it broke again when moving the scope. Is a replacement spindle casting available from any source? Although I am an engineer, and if money were no object, I could probably reverse engineer this part, produce a blueprint from many careful measurements, go to a foundry, and have a new one cast (or drop forged) in stainless steel, it would cost many times more than the telescope itself, and for that price I could just get a much bigger scope with a far more rugged mount. The original damage happened when the motorized mount was in a duffel bag that someone knocked off the tailgate of a pickup. It fell about 3 feet and impacted on hard rocky terrain. Visually it appeared to be undamaged until the weight of the tube was applied, then it was obvious something had broken. I have some pictures of the part and exactly where it goes if it has a different name than what I described. So i need a good part number for this part, a valid address and price and delivery information to order one from. If someone has built an aftermarket one from something like stainless steel or similar stronger material, so much the better, as it might also stiffen the scope and reduce vibration and oscillation when one bumps the eyepiece while observing.

Meade "MAY" sell you the part? Usually they want you to send the scope back. Call customer service: is also a problem on the ETX model scopes. There are some ingenious fixes posted on the Mighty ETX web site. Here: Bassically bolts, washers and nuts.Search the web site for Broken DEC knob.

I own a celestron c6 sgt, when im setting it up i have align the 2 index marks on the mount, when i do this the optical tube is not pointing in the exact position as the polar axis, the optical tube is pointing a little more to the right, the declination axis would only need to be turned 3mm to put it right.when index marks lignd i also noticed the counter weight bar which moves around the polar axis does not point directly to the ground. so is this normal or are my index marks (which are glued on) in the wrong position. please help derek

The setting circles are out of adjustment.

Vivitar telescope I am using parts from your vivitar telescope for an optical monitor. This includes lens adjustment, eyepiece and mount. I have an ad for it, I found in Sunday post and would like to include the Vivitar name and model. If I remove the ad pricing would you have a problem with being part of the subject of a project which 'pretty much' destroys your orignal product for it's pieces? The article will be submitted to appear in 'Gadget Freaks' in 'DesignNew'.

Hello just a quick question, am I able to use a celestron c8 sct on the mount for my nexstar 6se? Would the dove tail fit properly and would the mount hold the bigger optical tube? Many thanks, Adam Jeffrey

Yes if it is "Vixen" style dovetail.

I have a new-in-box Konus Motormax 130mm 1796 I got about 3 years ago (it was described as a spotting scope) from a supposed Konus dealer on ebay. He then sold me a $100 Celestron tripod for it claiming he would send a mounting adaptor....But he then slithered off into a crevice somewhere. Is there such an adaptor? If so, where could I get one? Thanks.

Contact a regular DEALER for this scope and see if they have one. You may just have to look in a well stocked hardware store for something you can use to mount the scope on the tripod.

How do I attach telescope tube to eq dovetail mount?

You first have to get 2 tube rings. These must be the right size for your scope. They will have hinges and clamp screws and at least one other hole for attaching to a dovetail rail. Then you need a rail, sized appropriately for your scope. They come in several lengths and 2 geometries, Vixen and Losmandy. Almost certainly you will need the first one. There are some scopes with very fat tubes, like Schmidt-Cassegrains, where the rail attaches directly to the tube fittings. .
