I bought a basic Meade DS 2114 GOTO astronomical telescope for my father who is only just getting into telescopes and astronomy. As both of us are just beginners and mainly use the telescope leisurely, we haven't gotten very serious about it and don't know too much. So the problem is that the telescope is clearly missing a lens that will invert the image and I need to know what I will need in order to view images the right way instead of upside down as we currently are

NO it is NOT missing a lens-- all astronomical telescopes show upside down images. You can buy an "erecting prism" diagonal for terrestrial viewing, but you do not need it to view the night sky. Here is an example of the erecting prism:

Astronomy is a learned skill- I would suggest that you contact a local Astronomy club and attend their meetings and their free star parties-- ask lots of questions and see what kind of telescopes they use.

Received used scope and know squat!

Meade's website has manuals on most of their product - since they make hundreds of styles, an exact manual may not be available - just choose one that is closest. Things are inverted and reversed, as it is an astronomical telescope, and it does not matter what the orientation is when viewing the sky. To get the images part way corrected, use the diagonal mirror before the eyepiece and look in the downward position. images will be correct in the Up/Down direction, but not left/right. That is why binoculars have 2 prisms to correct the image.

Need to know how to use the telescope after it is setup

Lorraine, join a club or get instruction book. An optical telescope which uses lenses is known as a refracting telescope or a refractor; one which uses a mirror is known as a reflecting telescope or a reflector. I need a manual. I have never used a telescope. I want to tackle this right.

You will not find a specific manual for that small telescope. However Meade maintains a web site with manuals for their telescopes. Find one similar to yours and download it for free. You might get a picture of the moon but not much look under Customer Service--- ManualsTry to attend a local Astronomy club's star party in your area and ask questions.
