No, you need an erecting lens and you can buy a variety of them to flip it right side up. This type of lens is used in only terrestrial telescopes and just to let you know, all astronomical telescopes show upside down images.

Computer control and pointing with NorthStar Goto & Autostar

Your reseller is correct. The wire (Meade cable #505) goes from an RS232 serial port on PC to a 4pin RJ plug. This plugs into the 2nd socket on the bottom of an Autostar 497 handset, the other socket being used for the curly lead to the telescope. So it goes PC to Autostar to telescope. A common error is to try plugging the serial wire into an "AUX" ort on the telescope control panel - same connector. Not only does this not work, it can cause a lot of damage. Wired like this you can control the scope from Meade's Autostar Suite (or many other planetarium softwares). You can also update the Autostar software to the latest 2009 version. What else can go wrong? Well, many people want to control from a laptop, and modern ones don't have RS232 serial ports. Then you need a USB-to-serial convertor dongle, which effectively add a serial port to a laptop. But they often give it a very high port number (eg COM17) that the planetarium software does not find. Use Control Panel to reset the USB-serial-port to COM 1, 2, 3 or 4 and all should be well. But it can be a right fiddle!

New Telescope I returned my Bushnell 100mm maksotuv cassagrain...it was a bad peice. Now i'm deciding for a better one, one that has the same features like the GO To program that actually works and a sharp focus and tracking technology. I hope there is a telescope like that under $600. Any suggestions? Any help appreciated.

Meade and Celestron both make small goto scopes--http://www.meade.com/etx_premier/index.htmlhttp://www.universetoday.com/guide-to-space/telescopes/celestron-se/However can I persuade you to buy a nice PUSHTO Dobsonian like this one--http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=27183

Computer not accurate

Looking through the manual (link follows) please check that you set the time in 24 hour clock with timezone correctly. Also the date & of course location. I see no reset function in the manual but I guess leaving the batteries out for a while will reset it. Manual link: http://www.bushnell.com/customer_service/manuals/telescopes/78-8876_1LIM.pdf Also although it says you do not need to know where the stars are you're aligning to it's good to have some idea that you're actually aligning with "Mizar" or whatever. You can find maps of the night sky where you are on this link: http://www.wunderground.com/sky/index.asp Finally check if there is a local astronomy group that you can join, they are always ready to encourage & help people.

I was just given a North Star goto telescope that was used. I do have the instruction manual but it does not show how to put the eyepices in. Bill McClung

Billmcclung: Bill, the Maks, use a diagonal to view the stars and the eyepieces go inside the diagonal.

My telescope is producing an upside down image when I try to focus it, what's wrong?

Nothing. All astronomical telescopes show upside down images. There is no up or down in space. You can buy an "erecting prism diagonal". Just Google it----- and you will see several examples that you can buy. These are only used for terrestrial viewing. You may want to read my TIPS on my PROFILE--- "Frequently Asked Questions" ---Also this web site may also help you:http://www.cloudynights.com/item.php?item_id=810

Display is very hard to read the text. bushnell says there's nothing they can do. I can't use it. barely read it in the light, can't read it in the dark.

Contact Bushnell and ask for a replacement hand controller. Your batteries are brand new CORRECT?
