Meade etx-105ec Hello, the major problem wiht the scope is that the focus whell does not work in manual or automatic mode. It was not working well, kind of stiff, but now the adjusting knob just backs out of the housing tube and when you look though the eye piece nothing can be viewed at all! I phone Meade and they said they no longer service this unit and it is past it's service life?

The rocker adjusting lever does not move the eye pieces . What does it take to fix them? I can remove the entire eyepiece section anf if remove the pivet cap I can see there is nothing in the "tube to move the eye piece. Also it looks like there is a pin sheared off on the eye piece "axle" fittting in under the rocker lover.

When you remove the eyepiece assembly and look at that "sheared pin" you will see it is actually screwed into the shaft. If you can grab it with a pair of long nosed pliers and unscrew it then a simple self tapping screw with a head of similar diameter to the original screw can be screwed in once you have replaced the assembly. This will enable the focus to work once more.

I have a Meade ETX 60 / 70 AT. When I moved to Louisville a few years ago. The telescope would no longer initiate and could not find my location. I put the telescope away and did nothing with it. It is a great piece of equipment and I would like to get going again. I called Meade customer service and they said to buy a new one. My question is - anybody who could evaluate the telescope? Any contacts, clubs, etc? Any help would be appreciated. Bill

Most repairs will be MORE than the telescope is worth. You can buy these used (and working) on AstroMart.com from time to time for under $200.Meade will repair this for about $175. So it makes no sense. The only thing I would try is a new hand controller cable. If it still does not work then you may be able to seell it for parts on astromart.com

HI, Just purchased a nextstar 8 and when I tried to view thru the main eye-piece, nothing. Even tried to look at the full moon, nothing again. Yes, all the lens caps are off but it seems like the focas knob is'nt doing anything. I started out with a meade 4" telescope and jumped at the chance to buy this bigger scope. It has the gps and 7x50 finder scope with red cross hairs. It came from Colorado so maybe it got knocked out of wack in shipping. Is there anything I can do or try here ? I'm handy around the house and would like to fix this myself, if it's not to hard. Thanks, Chris

Check the focus knob and make sure the small "set-screw" is tight and the knob is just not spinning around on the shaft. DID you turn the knob enough to focus? Sometimes it may take 10 - 20 full turns. Finally the focuser is attached to a "rod" inside the tube that moves the mirror back and forth to focus the scope. It could have come loose from the rod?Instructions for disassembly are here:http://www.celestron.com/c3/support3/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=2220and here:http://www.sciencecenter.net/hutech/misc/focuslk/index.htm this just shows how it works.

I have a newtonian telescope 76mm with SR4, H12.5 and H20. I have aligned the crosses up and can see through the viewfinder but nothing through the eye piece. Ive placed all the other lenses into the eye piece but nothing - just grey. in the daytime - just whiteness, at night just black, What am I doing wrong ? All the caps are off! Im a tad worried ive bought a low range telescope thats not much good. How is it that I can see through the little viewfinder on top but nothing with the eye piece - even by using the rack and pinion to focus ?

YOU MUST align the small finder scope with the main tube.Point the scope at a distant object like the top of a telephone pole. GET the top in the center of the eyepiece in the main scope. Then without moving the scope-- adjust the cross-hairs in the small finder scope so they line up on the same object.

I've made every possible alignment on my 10 inch Meade LX200GPS telescope, training,set-up, calibration, etc...but when I slew to a star....it is ALWAYS very far off in Dec....though RA seems to be well aligned. What am I missing ....or what is wrong? Dec, will be either way high,(frequently totally out of the finder, much less the eye piece) if I'm slewing into one hemisphere, or way low if I'm in the opposite hemisphere. I have a DSI Pro II imager ready to go....but I can't even get started with the LX200GPS PRIME asset, accurate slewing to desired objects. HELP, Please..it's driving me nuts.

You might want to join the following Yahoo group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LX200GPS/ I am not familiar with the LX200, but there are probably folks on the Yahoo group that can help.  The only thing I can think of is if you are using a wedge and the wedge isn't at the correct angle (should match your lattitude).  Or you are not using a wedge and the Meade controller thinks that you are.  But one would think the calibration would solve that.

Can't focus on anything at all

Here is the manual-- read it cover to cover--http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/ETXtelescopes/ETX-90%20w-autostar%20man.pdf1. Take off the lens cap2. Put your lowest magnification eyepiece into the telescope on the TOP eyepiece port-- there is a lever on the side which rotates the diagonal mirror between the top and rear ports --- can you see light through the telescope? If not turn the lever.3. During the day practice focusing on a distant object at least 100 yards away-- the image will be upside down -- this is not a problem-- no UP or Down in space.!4. The lowest magnification eyepiece is the one with the LARGEST number on it.

Meade, model: 6600, 6", need instruction manual & eye pieces

Sorry about Meade's responses, but their website has a download section for the telescope manuals - you may not find one that matches exactly, as they produce hundreds of models, but one that is close should suffice. As for eyepieces, there are several good vendors out there; Orion Telescopes, Meridian etc. Just check the barrel size; either .965" (Japanese standard) or 1.25" (American standard).

Missing the eye piece for the Meade saturn 60az-m

Ebay is a great resource for eyepieces, i would suggest a 26mm ma.the eyepiece should drop in. if not you might be missing the image erecting diagonal. when the eyepiece is installed you should be looking perpendicular at the tube.

My 18x50 IS binoculars are broken; the right eye piece won't focus and I hear a clunk inside when I turn it over; the left focuses just fine. What can I do and where; here in las vegas?

Sounds like you've dislodged one of the prisms inside. A service center can look it over for you, but from personal experience, it's cheaper to replace them than pay to ship them to/from the service folks plus the estimation fee just to find out that they'll have to be replaced, anyway. Sorry.
