Why can I not see the difference from the sky and a star even when I allign my laser well?

It sounds like you have not adjusted the focus properly. I recommend you take your telescope outside in the daytime and point it toward a building or tree or hilltop that is somewhat distant from you. The exact distance is not important, but it should a block or more. With the telescope pointed at the distant object, focus the telescope until the object is sharp and clear. The object might appear upside down -- that's normal for many astronomical telescopes. When you have achieved a sharp focus, leave the focus control alone until you are outside at night under the stars. The focus should now be fairly close for viewing stars and planets. Small adjustments of the focus control may still be necessary for the sharpest view. - Jeff

Start Align with NexStar 4SE

Did you enter the correct TIME, DATE, and LOCATION? and yes you may have aligned on to the wrong stars -- they need to be "near" the center.

Celestron nexstar 8 i series alignment trouble

Kind of late with my answer...BUT if you pop off your GPS unit and then just tilt it up and down CAN YOU HEAR a ball bearing moving inside...??? YOU SHOULD....that is how the GPS actually finds the level position of the OTA....sounds like it is stuck..OR even worst that you have a CN-16 unit that was designed for a GEM mount which is not designed at all for leveling the OTA...Next thing.. exactly what version is your hand controller...version 2.3 ???? Having trouble getting a Celestron Nexstar 114 to locate even guide stars? When I get an "alignment success" then pick an object, say m42 it takes off like it's looking for m42 but just keeps going and at the same time the hand controller reads "align again" or "no response"? Any help out there on this one? Thanks...JMR

Have you followed the instructions in the manual? The first thing to do is setup with the time, date and location, then select a 3 or 2 star alignment method to calibrate. Use ONLY the hand controller to move the scope to the stars.

GOTO ERRORS MEADE LX200 10" CLASSIC

Most problems tend to be mechanical. Have you 'trained' the drive and set the backlash values? Those 2 can have dramatic effects on pointing accuracy. Also, if the optical tube is not in alignment with the mount, then nothing will work correctly. To check that, have the telescope in Alt-Az configuration, inside the house, loosen the RA lock, and shine a laser pointer on the corrector plate. as the telescope is rotated about the RA, the reflected spot should be steady. Adjust the DEC to minimize the diameter of the circle that is drawn. What is left, is the out-of-true on the DEC axis. That can be adjusted with the tube cradle alignment bolts.

I have the Nexstar 8. It will not auto align or manual....

You must set TIME, DATE, and SITE-- probably does not know your actual location. Read the manual and perform all of the setup procedures. Some of these have a "starting position" again read the manual and make sure you are in the "home" position before you start the alignment. Read my TIP on my profile page about GOTO telescopes, and join the NEXSTAR forum on www.cloudynights.com

I can go through the Sky Align procedure and the telescope will not find an object for which it has been tasked (ie. the Moon). I have triple checked the time, lat/long, etc. and still no luck after many attempts. The telescope will point in the generaal direction of an object but it is still at least 10 degrees off. Please help.

Is the mount level? Did you center both alignment stars? Are you running it off of fresh batteries or an outside power pack? 10 degrees sounds like Daylight Savings time is set to YES instead of Standard Time.

Problem with alignment of Meade LX90 8" telescope

Start from scratch- RESET the hand controller.Calibrate motors using the same power source you will use outside.Re-train the drivesCalibrate sensors on PolarisUse either the 110 volt power cord, or buy a 12 volt power pack and the proper Meade 12 volt cable. (www.scopestuff.com carries the right 12 volt cable)If your scope is NOT the LNT or GPS model you must level the tripod before you align. Go to home depot and buy the $3 small plastic two way bubble level, or the bulls-eye style bubble level.Further trouble, I suggest going to the LX90 Yahoo group forum, and asking questions there.Good Luck
