My goto telescope will not slew upwards.

I have a new Meade DS-2114ATS-LNT telescope. It will not slew upwards at all. Are there parts I can order to replace the gears or whatever the problem is? Thanks, Mike P.

I'm assuming the motor works fine. First check this link for the instructional video and check you are doing everything right. (you need quicktime to view these - you can download it from the link if you need it ; Here is the link to the Meade warranty page; If your scope is no longer under warranty, you can get spares here; They have fabulous pictures of all the available parts - Check in the "mount parts" section; They show a DS worm gear assembly, and a DS gear and washer set. You can probably see better than me, but it looks as if the worm gear traverses the scope, and the gear and washers in their housing elevate the scope. There may be more than they show parts for. The real trick will be to make sure you know how to reassemble the gears you dismantle - take a photo every time you remove something so you have a record when the replacement parts arrive. It is not the most complicated gear mechanism, but it is reasonably high precision, and relatively cheap materials, so be very careful or get someone fairly gentle and mechanically minded. If you need help, post me some photos back of what you need help with, happy to oblige. Hope this helps:)

Most problems tend to be mechanical. Have you 'trained' the drive and set the backlash values? Those 2 can have dramatic effects on pointing accuracy. Also, if the optical tube is not in alignment with the mount, then nothing will work correctly. To check that, have the telescope in Alt-Az configuration, inside the house, loosen the RA lock, and shine a laser pointer on the corrector plate. as the telescope is rotated about the RA, the reflected spot should be steady. Adjust the DEC to minimize the diameter of the circle that is drawn. What is left, is the out-of-true on the DEC axis. That can be adjusted with the tube cradle alignment bolts.

GoTo Problem Please Help... im and going crazy!!! I have a Celestron Nextstar SLT 130 GoTo scope and love the pictures it produces but cant get it to GoTo very well. It dose the three star alignment, 1 star alignment and solar alignment fine and have no problems with alignment, level the scope well and set the time to nearly the second. Once aligned and i start to move the scope around the night sky, if i try to ask the socpe to slew back to a star, even an alignment satr, it goes in the general direction but doesn't bring the star into the view field and is off by a significant amount. I have tried centering the star in the view and then asking the scope to find that star and it goes out of the view by the same amount every time. Im goging crazy. I thought it was a motor problem and swaped the scope at the store but the new one is exactly the same. I just dont know what is wrong. Im in the southern skies and only reviews is for the northern, dont know if this matters. Any help would be fantastic. Just cant get it to slew to any objests correctly!

Be sure that the telescope is configured for EQ SOUTH mode to tell it is in the southern hemisphere. Once a star alignment is completed NEVER manually move the telescope. Use only the control panel to slew. Everytime the telescope is move by hand, the motors do not know it has been done, and assume it is still pointing at the old direction. Check the manual for setup. Here:

I bought a basic Meade DS 2114 GOTO astronomical telescope for my father who is only just getting into telescopes and astronomy. As both of us are just beginners and mainly use the telescope leisurely, we haven't gotten very serious about it and don't know too much. So the problem is that the telescope is clearly missing a lens that will invert the image and I need to know what I will need in order to view images the right way instead of upside down as we currently are

NO it is NOT missing a lens-- all astronomical telescopes show upside down images. You can buy an "erecting prism" diagonal for terrestrial viewing, but you do not need it to view the night sky. Here is an example of the erecting prism:

Meade DS 2000 Goto Reflector scope. I am looking for the base goto motor assembly housing witch houses the motor and gears. Can anybody please help?

You cannot actually get parts for this scope other than from Meade directly-- and possibly a USED motor on Ebay. Usually Meade wants you to send in the scope for repair and will not sell you any gears or

Hi.I have the same problem.I bought a few 1oz magnets and place them under the tube at the bottom by the mirror. They counter ballance the real eyepieces. Depending what I put in the focuser tube determines how many magnets. Better yet, dump that junk if you can.I hope to. Gerry

My telescope with autostar will slew up and down but not from side to side.

Sometimes this can be caused by:A bad hand controller cableA bad hand controllerBroken gears insideTry to look inside the base for something broken and try a new cable which is cheap. If it's a broken gear, or a burned out circuit board you will need to return it to Meade for repair.
