LX90GPS "finding north" does not complete

Hello I recently bought an LX90GPS. Whenever I turn it on it gets a GPS fix, then asks for date/time, finds level ok and then it says "finding north" and just starts turning around and around forever, and of course after 3-4 full circles I have no option but to turn it off as I do not want to overheat the mechanism. Of course I cannot auto-align, since it cannot find the north, and I just do rough 2-star alignments which are not so easy and it can take me up to 30 minutes to align it properly... My question is why can't it find the north? It just keeps turning round and round, clearly passing

LX90GPS "finding north" does not complete

The LX90GPS and other LTN devices use an internal accelerometer to calculate tilt and North. That has nothing to do with the GPS. Sounds like you need to talk to Meade. My LX90GPS doesn't do North very well, but I can calibrate that out with the two star alignment. THEN the thing points almost perfectly all over the sky. Sorry I couldn't help you more.

Meade LX90 GPS - When the telescope slews to a new location (tour or manual slew), the telescope then slews up a few degrees. I have to manually slew the scope down several degrees and hope I've guessed the correct amount the telescope will move when I'm done. It also moves up even when I move the scope left or right!

Calibrate motors and then TRAIN the drives-- this sets the gear backlash. You should Calibrate motors every time you take it outside and Train drives at least once every year. The symptom you describe is called "rubberbanding".Train the drives.

Meade LX200GPS The scope does not complete the 'Auto Alignment'

Once the scope has taken a GPS fix and knows TIME, and SITE, and you do a two star alignment your alignment stars overide any automatic alignment issues. You could turn off the GPS put in Time, Date, and Site, do a two star alignment and everything would be fine. Centering the alignment stars is the "trick". Apparently the scope also finds NORTH OK, or the alignment stars would be way off. Since you pre-level the tripod already the software can FAIL on "tilt" and you still get good gotos.I would not worry about it, especially since your gotos seem perfectly fine.

Lx90 I have just set up my meade lx90 and looking through the lens all I can see is black ball in the center that appears to be the secondary mirror surrounded by its baffle - I'm confused.  Help!

Put a diagonal into the scope, and select the lowest power eyepiece you have-- that's the one with the largest number on it.During the daytime practice focusing on a distant object-- then align your finder scope crosshairs to match what you see in the eyepiece. Be sue to read the manual and learn how to enter, time, date, and site-- calibrate motors, and train drives-- Clear Skies

Inability for the telescope align

Replace the battery for the GPS.Start from scratch.Reset the hand controller, calibrate motors, train drives, calibrate sensors.Make sure you have either fresh batteries, or better a seperate 12 volt power pack. The above will eleiminate everything except an actual BROKEN electronic part (such as a bad gps board). If it still will not align using the gps, time to send it back to Meade for repairs. Make sure you have the latest firmware in the hand controller which is 43Eg. You can download the firmware using the UPDATER free software here:

Problem with lx200gps meade telescope

It might be a voltage or electrical current problem. Make sure your DC power supply is between 12 and 14 volts. Make sure all electrical connections are tight. Where the power cord plugs into the connection panel, make sure the center pin on the panel fits tightly into the plug. It is a Radio Shack type "N" plug. If tou still have a problem, remove the bottom plate from the scope base and make sure all the connectors are properly seated on the circuit board. Check the connector on the end where the black and red wires are. That is a main power connector and if it is too loose it will not conduct enough current. There can be enough voltage drop that the drive motors won't operate, or they will and the scope will slew uncontrollaby. Be careful handling the wires so that you don't damage them. Good luck, Dave
