Azmouth axle (lower mounting) broken off base

I would like to repair the base of my DS-2114 mount! The verticle shaft of the AZ mount has fractured. I am proposing the use of a metal filled epoxy and a long 3/8-24 bolt to hold the casting together. I then propose drilling and threading four holes through the bottom of the casting and into the verticle shaft as a perminent fix. Has anyone had this same problem with a 2114 base? Thanks, Fred

Azmouth axle (lower mounting) broken off base

I have done this on another DS mounting as a deliberate modification. In your case I would see if I could get a replacment as it might cost less assuming your time is worth anything. In my case I made a modification and I cut the casting web which I suspect is what broke on yours. Either you had it knocked over or you trie to mount too much weight??? Anyway since yours is a break the precision of the repaire would be in question so geting a repair part would be my first inquiry. Otherwise your fix will be similiar to my modification which was successful! Best, Rick

I have a broken elevation spindle, the little aluminum casting that passes through the plastic driven gear and ultimately ends in 4 tapped holes that the sleeve bolts to that holds the optical tube. We tried to repair this with JB Weld Epoxy, and it held for one night, but it broke again when moving the scope. Is a replacement spindle casting available from any source? Although I am an engineer, and if money were no object, I could probably reverse engineer this part, produce a blueprint from many careful measurements, go to a foundry, and have a new one cast (or drop forged) in stainless steel, it would cost many times more than the telescope itself, and for that price I could just get a much bigger scope with a far more rugged mount. The original damage happened when the motorized mount was in a duffel bag that someone knocked off the tailgate of a pickup. It fell about 3 feet and impacted on hard rocky terrain. Visually it appeared to be undamaged until the weight of the tube was applied, then it was obvious something had broken. I have some pictures of the part and exactly where it goes if it has a different name than what I described. So i need a good part number for this part, a valid address and price and delivery information to order one from. If someone has built an aftermarket one from something like stainless steel or similar stronger material, so much the better, as it might also stiffen the scope and reduce vibration and oscillation when one bumps the eyepiece while observing.

Meade "MAY" sell you the part? Usually they want you to send the scope back. Call customer service: is also a problem on the ETX model scopes. There are some ingenious fixes posted on the Mighty ETX web site. Here: Bassically bolts, washers and nuts.Search the web site for Broken DEC knob.

The telescope has been knocked over a few times and a piece in the mounting bracket is broken. The piece is a metal circle with almost a biohazard symbol cut out of it. There is a long piece of threaded metal that comes off of it and there are four mounting screws attached. Please help!

You may be able to buy what you need from Meade. Here is their customer service number:

Hi, Bought a used telescope with a GT mount. The polar adjustment will not go below 46 degrees without binding. The binding screw only turns 1/4 turn in each direction and appears to be binding the movement to lower than 46 degrees.

This scope does NOT need to be polar aligned --Here is the manual: is an ALT AZ goto scope. Read the manual above. You use the hand controller to move the scope in Altitude and Azimuth(left-right). You must align it on 2 stars in order for it to has successful gotos.Read the manual above.

I have a Meade DS-2114 and the plastic viewfinder mount broke. I called Meade Customer support and they said they no longer offer this replacement part. Any suggestions?

There are a great many finder brackets on the market, one is sure to fit, although you may have to drill a hole or 2 in it.

Meade DS 2000 Goto Reflector scope. I am looking for the base goto motor assembly housing witch houses the motor and gears. Can anybody please help?

You cannot actually get parts for this scope other than from Meade directly-- and possibly a USED motor on Ebay. Usually Meade wants you to send in the scope for repair and will not sell you any gears or

How to realign a permanent base for a 16'' Meade LX200 Telescope

You will not need the GPS to work once you are polar aligned, especially if you use the PARK feature before you turn it off.If the base can be rotated to within 1 or 2 degrees of true North you can use the RA adjustments on the wedge to compensate for the error. Is this a commercial wedge or one that someone welded together from steel? If it is commercial it should have RA adjustments. BUT, you will still need to get near true North or you will not have enough adjustment to correct the final few degrees of error. If you can point the scope at Polaris you will be within "range" of the possible wedge adjustment. This may help you: see step #2 see #8 this helps you.
