10" Meade Fork, Quartz LX Pulse Drive

Moved 10" SCT to Orion Atlas and am adapting twin 6" Objectives in a binocular arrangement to the old mount, sans the fork. Lost 12 volt adaptor and was wondering if the center post was positive or negative in order to test the original mounting to see if the drive still works. A schematic would be helpful, too. Thanks, Patrick O'Flaherty [email protected]

Setting these up is indeed the hardest thing, although as you know once set, it is all good. I hope all this information I have provide you will help. I indeed see nothing wrong with your suggestion, IF, that's indeed what needs to be done, and ONLY do it, id after doing everything else first, you still cannot Zero it, then doing as you say should set it to rights, good luck.

I've made every possible alignment on my 10 inch Meade LX200GPS telescope, training,set-up, calibration, etc...but when I slew to a star....it is ALWAYS very far off in Dec....though RA seems to be well aligned. What am I missing ....or what is wrong? Dec, will be either way high,(frequently totally out of the finder, much less the eye piece) if I'm slewing into one hemisphere, or way low if I'm in the opposite hemisphere. I have a DSI Pro II imager ready to go....but I can't even get started with the LX200GPS PRIME asset, accurate slewing to desired objects. HELP, Please..it's driving me nuts.

You might want to join the following Yahoo group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LX200GPS/ I am not familiar with the LX200, but there are probably folks on the Yahoo group that can help.  The only thing I can think of is if you are using a wedge and the wedge isn't at the correct angle (should match your lattitude).  Or you are not using a wedge and the Meade controller thinks that you are.  But one would think the calibration would solve that.

Meade LX200 drive system keeps spinning

The older Lx200's go into tracking mode when turned on if they are not recieving a signal from the handbox. It does this on purpose so you can use the telescope without the handbox and still track sky objects. If it is still doing this with the handbox plugged in then you have a bad chip in the electronics and Meade is notorious for not having parts for their older telescopes. Don't send it in to them to repair. It will cost you a fortune to mail back and forth and they still can't repair most electronic problems with their older scopes(from my personal experience).

My Meade 90mm refractor with autostar has a stripped gear, crappy little nylon gear that drives the worm gear that rotates the telescope. Can I get relacement gears or do I have to get a new drive system. I will not send it to meade as it will more than likely cost more than the price paid.

No one but Meade makes parts for this scope. Do you intend to have a custom GEAR machined??? This will be more than just sending it back to Meade; which you will need to do to get it repaired.

Problem with lx200gps meade telescope

It might be a voltage or electrical current problem. Make sure your DC power supply is between 12 and 14 volts. Make sure all electrical connections are tight. Where the power cord plugs into the connection panel, make sure the center pin on the panel fits tightly into the plug. It is a Radio Shack type "N" plug. If tou still have a problem, remove the bottom plate from the scope base and make sure all the connectors are properly seated on the circuit board. Check the connector on the end where the black and red wires are. That is a main power connector and if it is too loose it will not conduct enough current. There can be enough voltage drop that the drive motors won't operate, or they will and the scope will slew uncontrollaby. Be careful handling the wires so that you don't damage them. Good luck, Dave
