Continuous RA motion

This is a non GPS LX-200. On power up unit spins slowly in RA and will never stop. New keep alive battery does not help. Keypad works normally. Any ideas? Scope sat idle for several years. Larry

I've made every possible alignment on my 10 inch Meade LX200GPS telescope, training,set-up, calibration, etc...but when I slew to a is ALWAYS very far off in Dec....though RA seems to be well aligned. What am I missing ....or what is wrong? Dec, will be either way high,(frequently totally out of the finder, much less the eye piece) if I'm slewing into one hemisphere, or way low if I'm in the opposite hemisphere. I have a DSI Pro II imager ready to go....but I can't even get started with the LX200GPS PRIME asset, accurate slewing to desired objects. HELP,'s driving me nuts.

You might want to join the following Yahoo group: I am not familiar with the LX200, but there are probably folks on the Yahoo group that can help.  The only thing I can think of is if you are using a wedge and the wedge isn't at the correct angle (should match your lattitude).  Or you are not using a wedge and the Meade controller thinks that you are.  But one would think the calibration would solve that.

Problem with lx200gps meade telescope

It might be a voltage or electrical current problem. Make sure your DC power supply is between 12 and 14 volts. Make sure all electrical connections are tight. Where the power cord plugs into the connection panel, make sure the center pin on the panel fits tightly into the plug. It is a Radio Shack type "N" plug. If tou still have a problem, remove the bottom plate from the scope base and make sure all the connectors are properly seated on the circuit board. Check the connector on the end where the black and red wires are. That is a main power connector and if it is too loose it will not conduct enough current. There can be enough voltage drop that the drive motors won't operate, or they will and the scope will slew uncontrollaby. Be careful handling the wires so that you don't damage them. Good luck, Dave

Had the same problem. Took it to a dealer and we put a new controller on but the funny thing was that my old controller worked fine on another scope but it would not work on mine. Agreed with "Guest" above - Mead's after sales service is bad.

Meade LX200GPS 16" out of calibration? Above is your user manual. Below is the polar alignment guide. Below is an online manual. An auto guiding link below. - How to align tutorial. - United States You indeed seem very competent, and i think that using this above information, you will be able to figure it all out. Setting these up is indeed the hardest thing, although as you know once set, it is all good. I hope all this information I have provide you will help. I indeed see nothing wrong with your suggestion, IF, that's indeed what needs to be done, and ONLY do it, id after doing everything else first, you still cannot Zero it, then doing as you say should set it to rights, good luck.

My telescope-Meade LX200GPS when tracking the star,it can catch it in some minutes ,but later the star out of eyepiece,is it not tracking the goal? when I tracking the jupiter, the telescope can find the goal--out of the eyepiece?beside when I tracking the difference objects,I have choose the right tracking rate. I don't know where the problems is? when I tracking the satellite, the system calculate its rises time is far from the SkyMap ?

To track the scope must:1. Have a Calibrate motors done2. Be well Trained using the training routine3. Must have the correct TIME, DATE, and SITE, and Daylight Savings Time4. Must be properly aligned on two stars.Have you done all of the setup procedures listed in the manual? Locate a local Astronomy club and the members will help you with your telescope.

Meade LX200GPS The scope does not complete the 'Auto Alignment'

Once the scope has taken a GPS fix and knows TIME, and SITE, and you do a two star alignment your alignment stars overide any automatic alignment issues. You could turn off the GPS put in Time, Date, and Site, do a two star alignment and everything would be fine. Centering the alignment stars is the "trick". Apparently the scope also finds NORTH OK, or the alignment stars would be way off. Since you pre-level the tripod already the software can FAIL on "tilt" and you still get good gotos.I would not worry about it, especially since your gotos seem perfectly fine.

Power problem on lx200gps telescope

If it's an electronic problem --- there are several folks on the Yahoo LX200 Group that can repair the board-- go there and ask for "RON"---You should be using a stable 12 volt power source. The only other thing to check areGet a temporary replacement for the hand controller and see if that works-- and-or get a low cost replacement hand controller cable from and try the old controller with a new cable --- usually one of the capacitors is fried.
