Blown fuses in meade telescope

Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't know if what you said could be the problem. If I disconnect the ribbon from the mother board to the front panel and apply power the fuse does not blow .Seems to indicate something past the front panel? I'm just guessing. Any Ideas? Thanks

My New 12? Meade LX200 ACF GPS telescope does not have the two screw?s in the front and the rear of the top of the main optical tube for mounting a dovetail plate to the top center or does it have screws on the right side for mounting the finder scope on ether side like my 10? and 8? scopes had. There is only one screw in the front and back located in the optical tube not the soiled black main back or the soiled black corrector plate ring in the front. Is this the way they are making them now or is this a manufacture mistake, because if this is so you will not even be able to mount Meade?s dovetail mounting plate for all the mounting plates I have researched all have to have two screws that go all the way through the plate and the curved mounting blocks ion to the scopes front and back. If you know anything about this I would like to know because Meade does not even know the anser. Thanks, Laurence

You may need to mount just a rail like this one:http://www.scopestuff.com/ss_mrail.htmYou can call Meade directly and ask:http://www.meade.com/support/index.html

My Meade LX-50 telescope has developed an electrical problem. When I turn it on it immediately blows the fuse. I tried disconnecting the drive motors, and it still blows the fuse, so I think the problem is in the circuit board. Any ideas on where I can get it fixed? Meade factory customer service says they no longer support this model.

A fellow by the name of Ron Sampson can repair hand controllers and main boards on Meade telescopes. He does very good work. All you need to send him are the board(s).You can contact him by posting a message on the Yahoo LX90 or LX200 group forums. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/lx90/Good luck-- by the way he repaired the hand controller for our astronomy clubs 10 inch Meade LX200, at a very reasonable cost.

Insutrction manual Hello optics experts, I cannot seem to find the instruction manual for the "Polaris" 114EQ-D telescope, however I have found a manual for a "Jupiter" 114EQ-D. MY telescope is very old, is it possible that Meade just re-branded the telescope? Pictures in the manual I was able to find look exactly like the actual telescope I own.

Hi, I also have this telescope with no manual! I called the Meade customer service number at 1-800-626-3233 and they are going to email me the manual for this model. FYI - it's now called a Jupiter 114EQ-D. Hope this helps you!

Blowing fuses in power supply

One thing to check, would be the filter capacitator that is on the front circuit board. They are known to become shorted. The cap is fairly large, and may be mounted on the side of the circuit board that faces the front panel. Clip one lead, and apply power. If the fuse does not blow, then that is it. A second possible component, is the polarity protection diode, that is near the power jack, next to the fuse. If it is shorted, then the fuse will blow every time.

I have a 1998 Meade LX200 classic that blew out fuses and capacitor(s) when I recently started it up. I have had a local TV repair shop replace all of the capacitors and it now has a runaway RA drive when powered up and the keypad blinks all LED's initially, then no LED's and the main display simply is stuck on "Meade". I like the scope and do not want to spend $4k for a new scope. Any suggestions?

Something else is wrong. The first thing to try is a new DEC cable and a new hand controller cable for the runaway slew, and hand controller issue. If new cables do not fix the problem then contact Ron Sampson on the Yahoo LX200 group-- just post a message for him there. He can repair Meade electronics at a reasonable cost if you send him the boards. He can also repair the hand controller including the internal ribbon cable and the LCD screen.Try the new cables first- check this web site for a wiring diagram:http://www.mapug-astronomy.net/or contact www.scopestuff.com they may have one already made-up.
