The same problem as the one I've just read about.........

Yes, we got an instruction manual that tells you how to put the telescope together, but we also have never before used a telescope and there are absolutely no instructions for how to work the telescope once it is together.  In fact the other guy that voiced the same complaints as ours, asked about things being upside down - well when putting it together it gave two different directions, one for reflective and one for refractive.  It didn't bother to explain the difference so one might feel somewhat secure in making a choice, but after hearing the other guy's complaint I guess we chose right

Lens' in my new Voyager 78-9960 telescope fell out

The small squares are spacers between the lens elements. Most objectives have 2 parts, with one lens like() or (|. That is the one on the outside, with the outwardly curved side facing the object to view. The other lens goes behind it, making the stack look like: (object) --- ())| for the 2 lenses. Sorry, this page does not allow proper graphics, but I hope you get the idea.Do not tighten the retaining ring too tight - just enough to hold in place. The lenses need a little space for thermal expansion.

GoTo Problem Please Help... im and going crazy!!! I have a Celestron Nextstar SLT 130 GoTo scope and love the pictures it produces but cant get it to GoTo very well. It dose the three star alignment, 1 star alignment and solar alignment fine and have no problems with alignment, level the scope well and set the time to nearly the second. Once aligned and i start to move the scope around the night sky, if i try to ask the socpe to slew back to a star, even an alignment satr, it goes in the general direction but doesn't bring the star into the view field and is off by a significant amount. I have tried centering the star in the view and then asking the scope to find that star and it goes out of the view by the same amount every time. Im goging crazy. I thought it was a motor problem and swaped the scope at the store but the new one is exactly the same. I just dont know what is wrong. Im in the southern skies and only reviews is for the northern, dont know if this matters. Any help would be fantastic. Just cant get it to slew to any objests correctly!

Be sure that the telescope is configured for EQ SOUTH mode to tell it is in the southern hemisphere. Once a star alignment is completed NEVER manually move the telescope. Use only the control panel to slew. Everytime the telescope is move by hand, the motors do not know it has been done, and assume it is still pointing at the old direction. Check the manual for setup. Here: http://www.celestron.com/c3/images/files/downloads/NexStar_SLT_manual.pdf

Telescope is only good for viewing moon...help!!!

Your scope is 565mm focal length with a 60mm objective which makes it f:9.5. (telescope focal length divided by lens diameter)all this means that the optics are capable of viewing larger planets. nebula is a bit of a stretch. maybe under exceptionally dark skies with at least 30min. of dark adaptation. brighter objects like m42 or m31 should be visible, bear in mind that only very large telescopes will resolve the slightest hint of color in nebulosity. the rest of us are reserved to gray scale. i would suggest using a 26mm eyepiece plossl if available. next make sure your finding system is aligned to the scope. this is best done during the day at a distant object like a radio tower. center the object in the eyepiece then align the finder.next get your self a good sky map like stellarium software a freebie and a fav. to ensure your looking at what you think your looking at.a word on eyepiece selection. magnification is calculated by dividing the focal length of the scope by the focal length of the eyepiece. for instance the scope is 565mm the recommended eyepiece is 26mm so the magnification would be around 22x.a rule of thumb for optics is about 50x per inch of objective. which means your scope is good for about 100x. so by the math you would use a 5.6mm e.p. to achieve 100x, however as optical powers increase field of view decreases making it difficult to find objects. find your object with a wide field e.p. then switch to a higher power to zoom in. if the image gets fuzzy at high power attempt to refocus, if it doesn't clean up either your asking a bit to much from the scope or seeing conditions in the upper atmosphere may not be ideal. what ever you do don't give up there are some amazing things to see out there.

Another question How about if i buy the celestron 8se from Amazon (the option that includes free shipping) on the address of my friend. All my friend has to do is to check it that it works and ship to my address in france. The following fixed and definite costs would be: -Payment to Amzon for the equipement (USD 1199) -Payment to my friend for shipping to me (via UPS) *The cost in Europe is Euros 1650(including shipping) *The cost from US is approx Euros 1050 (including shipping + insurance and exchange rate based) The following probable cost is the Adouane or cutoms duty. The telescope has 20% VAT (Euros 168) which brings the actual price of the telescope to Euros 1218. Now excise duty doesnt apply on this postal mail. We are left with only one duty i.e., custums duty which is applied on price base+insurance (no shipping cost included). This varies from country to country and product to product. I assume if it reaches to as high as 30% (more than VAT) the total price would be Euros 1500. Now the profit margin seems to range from 50 to 100 euros. So as per my rough guess, if your mail skip the customs (usually happens) then you can have a price advantage of around euros 300 to 400. After all this calculation we need to see what disadvantages might exists. The only main disadvantage is that the warranty rests in USA. So if some thing wrong happens which is beyond the engineering mind of the telescope owner, it is possible that it stands in the room as a piece of junk. The cost of sending back to US and receving back means one problem will simply cost approx Euros 450 (return based). If this risk can be taken, i think there is a point to buy without going to USA. I have googled around and found that most of the single item based postal mails skip the customs and most of the time the VAT as well since it is costly and time consuming activity for the governments to follow each mail. In UK, they charge the customs plus the custom services from the client. Here is the mail translated in english that i recieved from the www.astroshop.de to my recent inquiry regarding price. ******************************************************************************** Hello, and Thank you for your message. The product you want to buy seems to be cheaper in the U.S. that Germany. But it is a false impression. In the given prices, taxes and costs for the customs are not included! It makes a big difference! Please also note that there are other problems if you buy in USA: - If you have a problem with the telescope, you must send it to the U.S. ... And it also has to do with costs for the customs and extremely long lasting delays - In addition, shipping costs are also higher than in the U.S. and `can lasts much longer. In addition, you do not have the same rights and safety regulations, for example, you can not change the products, you do not have 2 years of warranty etc. ..... If you consider these arguments, I think you'll think - like us - that it makes no sense to buy the equipment in the U.S.. Please contact us again if you have more questions or suggestions please ****************************************************************************

You would be better off to buy locally. Try to find a local astronomy club and attend their meetings and star parties. Sometimes the members sell their older equipment at greatly reduced prices.

GOTO ERRORS MEADE LX200 10" CLASSIC

Most problems tend to be mechanical. Have you 'trained' the drive and set the backlash values? Those 2 can have dramatic effects on pointing accuracy. Also, if the optical tube is not in alignment with the mount, then nothing will work correctly. To check that, have the telescope in Alt-Az configuration, inside the house, loosen the RA lock, and shine a laser pointer on the corrector plate. as the telescope is rotated about the RA, the reflected spot should be steady. Adjust the DEC to minimize the diameter of the circle that is drawn. What is left, is the out-of-true on the DEC axis. That can be adjusted with the tube cradle alignment bolts.
